Demo progress is saved in the full release which is nice. The upgrades are too, particularly Item Sniffer for exploration and OG Coyote Time to close some more distance during platforming, not that you particularly need it since the base moveset is just so versatile. I like how much air control you have here, I've never felt a 3D platformer quite like it. I beat the first planet and got everything except the trophy times since I'm waiting till later to do those.
It feels like they REALLY want bubsy to be made into a smash character so they copied yoshis air scuttle while giving him a movement set that could translate into a full set of smash moves. And I'm not saying that as a compliment by the way. It's essentially the orange smuck trying desperately to say "See?! I'm cool! please think I'm cool and invite me to smash!" Like he's still trying to sit at the "cool kids table" even though everyone graduated years ago.
Seeing Bubsy at the top of his field as the last mascot platformer remaining after the death of the genre is genuinely hilarious. It's like seeing soyny still trying to win the console wars even after Microsoft literally gave up and borderline retired the Xbox brand.
Is the game actually good?
First of all, Bubsy's movements have been sped-up, so he doesn't have a long start-up anymore. This essentially means that if you're doing Grand Tour (which you should, because that's the only way to get the TRUE ending), you need to take your time and at least TRY to memorize the levels. Speaking of, they aren't linear. The exit can be anywhere on the map from the middle of the level to the bottom left corner. You need to sometimes go inside doors and different pathways to reach specific areas with switches to turn on/off that may/maynot make your playthrough even more difficult.
Bubsy also has items/weapons. One of the selling point of Bubsy 2 was the NERF Bazooka, which was a HUGE thing for kids back then. You get tickets to buy items at the end of the levels, and they range from:
Diving Suit - as the name implies you can go into water with this, but once you do, all it does is give you a mini-game to play.
Black Hole - Can exit a level whenever you want
Nerf Balls - Used for the Bazooka
There's also a band-aid that you can get to heal Bubsy, because he has a life meter this time in the form of his face. if he's smiling, he's good. If he's smiling with a worried look, he's still good, but you need to heal. If he's frowning, you REALLY need to heal because one more hit and you're dead. SO basically you have 2 hits total before you die on the third hit.
By the time you get to the harder floors, the game will just throw every fucking enemy at you, so you are going to die... ALOT. That's why it's imperative that you farm for lives in the earlier floors/levels.

From what I picked up on from this interview the main dev did yesterday, it seems like the new base (and unlockable) moveset additions come from the lack of Bubsy having much to work with to begin with and wanting to keep pushing the “Expressive Platformer” subgenre his other games use. Also, the interviewer forgets that Bubsy having a pounce isn't a 4D original move and is something first introduced in The Woolies Strike Back. Even the climbable walls is something that game introduced.
Ok, pirated it. So far I'm halfway through Stage 2 and starting to dig it more since the platforming's getting a little spicy. Game's still pretty easy despite that and I'm still not a fan of the linearity, but the game's keeping my attention. Also, I don't want to sperg about this too much, Bubsy makes a quip about AI saying something along the lines of: "Oh look, a Baabot! Beep-boop. Stupid robot. What are ya' gonna do? AI generate a threat towards me? Pfft, yeah right!"
If you know anything about Fabraz, they've made a few jabs on Twitter about AI. I also recall several months back seeing a webm on /v/ of Demon Tides where the MC yeets an NPC, Mr.Mint, into the hemisphere after he says something about the blockchain.
What's ironic about this is, well, I'll let my fav. YTer JimmyMcgee explain:
Scratch that. It was a joke about being a "prompt artist".

(I jumped the gun with my frustration over artists obsessively acting smug against AI or how much they loath it. They're just as annoying as the jeets who defend it.)
(You should still watch JimmyMcgee's vid anyway. He's a good video essayist!)

After beating it a couple days ago, I'd say it's alright.
What @cremechocolate said about the amount of air control you have is on point and what I found the most fun with the movement. It's figgity when you're pulling off all these jumps and air dives or bouncing around for momentum, yet it controls really well. It really started to click with me on level 2 when climbing up vertical spaces and crossing gaps in a couple levels. The final boss really encapsulates the heckticness of the mechanics well too.
Though the game's real weakness is the level design in some instances, because sometimes it's a bit too sparce with a bit too much open space seperating most of the platformig sectios especially because of all the damn roads/tubes connecting the parts of the level. I feel the game's at it's best when it's platforms are all scatterbrained and clutted together. Like, I wish it was more a mix of all those mini challenges in Sonic Frontiers, Mario Sunshine Fluddless levels, a little bit of Bowers Fury without the open world and Jumping Flash. Idk. Maybe Im asking for something a little too ambitious.
Level 3 kinda' started doing something like that while adding in more hazards to kick it up a notch, but then just half-assed it by the end at the final boss stage and it pretty much felt like that with some stages, which is a shame. It really could've benefitted with a 4th level that really puts everything to the test.
I was surprised to learn later there's a challenge gauntlet just like that throws everything at you, but you have to collect all the yarn, blueprints and time trial metals, and with the former I say: Fuck that noise.
I'm not a big fan of time trials or them being a requirement to unlock a Mario Lost Levels equivalent. Also it really seems like the game's meant for speedrunners in mind with how linear the levels are and all the frantic moves you can do to both speed up and use as a failsafe for bad jump to get you back on track. It may sound like I'm bitching, but I really did have fun with this game. I just that feel like it could've done just a bit more.
Also also, it looks like in the end the majority of people never really gave a shit about Bubsy anyway, aside from memes. Game's a one-and-done affair, like @Vyse Inglebard predicted.
How it started:
I really hate games that do this, especially when it's a requirement to complete it.
Donkey Kong Country Returns did that shit and it annoyed the fuck out of me. I was able to clear everything else the game threw at me (getting all the puzzle pieces, accessing the hidden temple stages, do mirror mode) but then it decided to pull a time attack mode... a VERY strict time attack mode where you need to be frame fucking perfect just to make it anywhere near the clear mark, and that's when I dropped the game hard and never looked back.
Tried this game, expecting the worst. It's actually not too bad... Except for the duration. It's 15 levels of 20 minutes each tops for 20 dollaros, which is a lot of money.
Bubsy also seemingly stole the moves of pretty much every mascot game ever.
Finished the game. It's a bit short and it feels like it had a budget, seeing the low enemy variety and low level count. Nevertheless, it's a solid title and a good Bubsy game, which feels like a paradox.
There's barely any story to talk about, it's mostly gameplay and bad puns. No wokeness either, Oblivia had always been deaf and she's here as well.
I even feel a bit bad for Bubsy due to how everyone dunks on him.
Despite all of Bub's efforts, he ends up not getting any reward, his lady-friend Oblivia not even giving him a kiss. He allegedly has multiple exes, but that probably was played for laughs. Nevertheless, he has more game than Mario, kek.
