UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Última edición por un moderador:
I saw two foxes stuck together while fucking once. I nearly shat myself laughing.

Has anyone else noticed lots of stuff on You Tube recently about the Fabian Society and it's complete infiltration of the stage and civil service? That's all very interesting. Anyone who thinks they're a harmless think tank is irredeemable stupid.

Burnham's advisors have come up with his 'four themes' to sell his message to Britain (X)
1. Britain believing in itself again
2. Britain better off
3. Room to breathe
4. Power to communities
He also called pubs the 'heritage' of the country (very true imho) and will cut business rates by 20% next year. Expect this to be U-turned on when he realises the country can't afford it (like the tax u-turn)
I've noticed that Burnham is undoubtedly appealing to and using the aesthetics of pre-Enriched Britain; Pubs, Northern soul, gravy, Oasis, Stone Roses, it's very, very 1990s 'Cool Britannia', and I'm 50/50 on whether Burnham is just perma-stuck believing its 1997 and is blind to diversity, or if this is a conscious choice to 'win back' voters with a soft nationalism. A GE would be disastrous for them, even with the bus fare cap in 2027, they would lose the gamble. Restore and co have learnt that running local branches called Location First gets them votes, Green still exists and will court students much more than Burnham can, Reform unfortunately exists and picked up a few by elections recently, it would be a very hung Parliament. I don't think Burnham's jeans-and-tshirt 'no podium for me luv' attitude can save the party.

Commonwealth Games start today, and Glasgow is still having discussions about what a dump the city has become. I do fear another foreign national or another leftie spergout, or God forbid, something happening with the Russians soon.
Anyway I had a fascinating interaction where I expressed my belief that Burnham's idea of 'a northerner' was a London-coded office worker with the Correct Opinions who gets lunch delivered daily, and not North Shields fishermen or old Margaret, victim of childhood sex abuse, on the Rochdale council estate and got called a nationalist socialist. Amazing times we live in.

What if Labour have accepted that they can't afford to keep all the promises they are currently making, because there is no money, but are working on the theory that, if they can consolidate enough goodwill, then that will carry them through a general election, albeit with a reduced majority?

Burham gets his mandate while taking advantage of a stagnation in the popularity of Reform, and pulling the rug out from under Restore who need a couple of years to build momentum. It's a gamble, but wise heads in the incumbent government must know things are going to get worse, so why not act sooner rather than later?
Basically, he will call a GE when Reform is at its weakest. He will do this in October/November. I am starting to think, personally, that Starmer did this to root out all the backstabbers. I think so because he just rolled over and did it, contrary to the dozen or so times when he effectively had to be dragged screaming. One thing Starmer is actually good at is fucking over Labour rebellions.

Poor Rubio.

Haha I remember during the 2014 referendum hearing from a great many ethnic Scots living elsewhere (mainly England and the USA) and they were, to a man, fiercely in favour of an independent Scotland. Ooh they were so Scottish. They loved Scotland so much that they'd do anything but live in the damn place lol. I'm sure the vote would have been Yes (sorry, "Aye") if you included the Scottish diaspora.
Heh I voted against the referendum coz I like being part of a United Kingdom, when it was worth it. Now I’m just so t

I voted no in 2014 because I was sick to fucking death of Glaswegians banging on about how much they hate English people. I don't regret it, the salt that flowed in the weeks after was top quality.

Am I being a mega retard Karen or does no one seem to hold the door open for you anymore? I personally just have the natural instinct to hold it open or give it a "push" when I know someone is going through the same door as me. I hold the door open for people and these days people just give you a surprised/shocked kinda attitude, or don't even acknowledge it.

It's absolutely not just you,I've noticed this too. There's an overall lack of good manners these days.

The snp has controlled Scotland since the referendum. In that time Scotland has seen ever more freebies for freeloaders, higher tax for higher earners, constant rhetoric of increasing immigration, attempts to legislate for self id and more. If you think an independent Scotland wouldn't be ten times worse for this shit than it is even now you're kidding yourself.

The UK has a lot of problems, but carving out chunks of it in the hope each can become a land of milk and honey - subsidised by the EU to achieve this goal - is not the answer.

I think these "oh that sounds good!" policies, particularly where the costing seems dubious, might be a drip feed ahead of a snap election - and around the 3 month mark is when PM popularity tends to peak. But pretty much anything official has been Burnham dismissing calls for a General Election

Most of the suggestions otherwise have been clickbait headlines like "When will Andy Burnham call a general election? Demands for poll grow as new PM pledges 'circuit breaker'" (the article says he's ruled it out). He's "under pressure" to call one because Nigel Farage and a couple of Tory spokesmen said he should call one, which isn't really applying pressure to him at the moment.

That said it would be incredibly funny if Andy, parachuted into a seat just so he could topple Keir and assume the mantle of the King in the North, immediately called an election and lost.
Well, he's been setting out a "ten year plan". So it'd make sense for that to correspond to two five-year terms...

Eta:

Better believe you're getting a "YOU'RE WELCOME" if I hold the door open and don't get a thank you. I'm not the fucking doorman.

Última edición:
I like the sound of the bus fare cap and cutting taxes for pubs, but I wonder how's he going to pay for it and why's he been so silent about immigration. I know I shouldn't like him any better than Starmer, but I don't yet feel as strongly opposed to him.

None of his proposed cuts are set to be enforced any time soon.

Can the MI6 glowies on here please report back to TPTB that people are struggling. *now*. Not in October, not next year, right now at this very minute.

I find it amazing the number of MPs who swore blind and absolutely promised, "I am 20,000 gorillipn %%% loyal to Keir" who then signed a letter supporting eyelashes.

The only thing they're loyal to is their nigh on £100k, expenses, and being legally able to give an "assistant" job in their constituency office to a family member, thus keeping the tax payer funded gravy in the family.

The longer normal people have to struggle, the more we have to hear, read and see of illegal immigrants being morally reprehensible, the higher the chances, I hope, of Labour being consigned to the shit heap of history, forever.

@BongoMongo To add all these "cuts" is all unfunded and amounts to nothing. We have a situation developing that mirrors Yugoslavia. There are towns across the country pushing for self-segregation. There are places in Ireland edging towards forming public fucking militias; then you get this nonce looking mother fucker be like "I know the answer, it's a £2 bus fare cap." NIGGA NO ONE FUCKING USES THEM.

Goes to cut business rates on pubs and hospitality. Guess what retard? Pub rates are currently at 115%, and hospitality is typically at 70-80%. Not even pre-covid. It does absolutely fucking nothing.

As you said, the good thing out of all of this is Labour have crucified themselves.

We just need the bags of £1000 notes lining the streets because they’re worthless. (Seriously, that was a thing when they devalued the currency and knocked 0000 off the old notes value)

I think in order for us to receive a great rainfall soon, we'll need to sacrifice a politician... oh who to choose?
The thing with a sacrifice is that it's meant to be a sacrifice. You are meant to give up something you want. Throwing kier on a spiky altar is as much of a 'sacrifice' as taking a shit is.
