UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's fucking obvious that Widdecombe was killed for political reasons.

"No evidence discovered yet" doesn't negate the fact that someone made a 12hr round trip to kill (not steal from) a vulnerable old lady who was well known to be outspoken on her political beliefs.
Fucking obvious that the killer had a political motivation. The circumstances of the case are evidence enough. What were they expecting? A copy of Mao's little red book to be left at the scene?

The killer wanted to send a message.
Troon adjacent or muslim/pally adjacent? Probably not remainer adjacent, imo. Definitely political and therefore terrorism.

Twelve arrested over threat to Islamic event

They've gotta get this one in the news cycle quickly. Not even little towns/villages in Suffolk are safe from these muzzies, no surprise, It's right outside of Ipswich, that place is a cesspool for small boaters and sandniggers.

Twelve people have been arrested over an alleged right-wing terror threat to an Islamic event at a country estate in Suffolk, police said.

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP)London said the UK Ijtima event at Shrubland Hall at Barham was ended early on Sunday as a precaution after the possible threat.

Ipswich is a town, not a city. Anywhere "outside of Ipswich" is either a village or a very very small town.

The right-wing threat was probably a small bunch of locals who planned to hold signs, give the finger and tell the muslims to fuck off.

Disruptive, yes.
Not exactly a bomb at a concert full of little girls.

Labour MP Natalie Fleet (Safeguarding and Violence against Women Minister) called Reform MPs 'bin men' in a tweet regarding threats made against them. Lee Anderson MP responded, reminding Fleet that he and his family and staff had all received death threats. The initial tweet was deleted but screnshots have been taken. The sneering classism is vile.

According to Wikipedia, Barham in Suffolk has a population of 1,504 people.

The BBC News article say that this Islamic event had 15 thousand attendees.

Why would you hold an event like that there? Ten times the local populations worth of Muslims turning up?

Guess they needed a venue that would fit a large crowd.

This "ijtema" thing sounds like a sort of extremist revival meeting, but for muslims. I guarantee they were organising something there.

:semperfidelis: I’ve watched in my lifetime, from across the pond and the whole frontier, the UK turn into a complete tyrannical oppressive state, but only to those with just the slightest tinge of conservative principles. Just the concept of being held, without bond, in the clink for saying or writing anything disparaging towards any minority, all while acts of violence committed by the protected classes are released immediately, without even a bond, is absolutely a dystopian reality. What makes it even worse is that said protected peoples contribute absolutely nothing to the society they reap incomprehensible benefits from, aside from a very select few who assimilate and conform.

I wish the best for all you over there who just want true equality, or even a return to true normalcy and have the systematic upper hand on refugees and immigrants, as it is meant to be.

At least it makes me and my fellow patriotic brothers appreciate our COLD beer and ICED tea. Cheerio, you cheeky blokes.

That's a rhetorical question isn't it, friend?
'Cause we all know why.
Same as the thousands bending over in Trafalgar Square etc.
It's a show of dominance.

Take over the capital's open spaces. Close down streets. Place their events in our village greens...
They want us to know that they're here.

Why has America stayed neutral on the Falkland Islands? Are we not suppose to super-duper close allies, special relationship? Never made sense to me.
Because the USA feels that they have the slavish loyalty of the UK govt. whether they support us or not, but likes to carrot and stick South American countries to be its proxies. Plus maybe it's worth the odd vote or two from the "anti-Colonialism" types.

Quote marks because Spanish and Portuguese are not colonial but the British are. Apparently.

EDIT:
Posted by Tommy Robinson (eh) and reposted by Elon Musk, I shouldn't laugh but fuck, gave me a big chuckle.

AI slop
Holy shit!

It shows that US isn't as good of an "ally" as it is often portrayed.
I also don't like the "US used economical, soft power so they are not colonialists" argument.
Of course, US was way better than Soviet Union, but they influenced the constitution of Germany after the WW2 defeat (thats why it is currently so against any type of right wing politics, to prevent "fascism"), pressured countries around the globe to be US biased so they have access to US economy.
The global influence kickstarted after 2001. US influenced a lot AML/KYC laws around the globe.

Ipswich is 20% immigrants at last count, 5% at last count Muslims, forced on them like all the other towns in the east and on the coast.

I'll say this for them, though, they don't lean into it like Norwich and its studenty politics.
I've been to both recently, Norwich has more to do but is full of stickers declaring places to be safe spaces for trans folk and welcome immigrants as a City of Culture; Ipswich is still the kind of place where kids will openly state and laugh at the creepy fuckers.

Archive is down, working on it.
It's not a "real" archive, but it's better than nothing.

yt-dlp can also download twitter videos but you might want to rename the files before upload; it seems that one of the billion fucking emojis was causing the uploads to fail...

Imagine being the police, complaining about being underfunded and underpaid for years only to spectacularly fuck up an investigation into the killing of a politician.
Of course they fucked up, they're underfunded and underpaid! It's a bulletproof escuse...
