UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

ALL pubs are allowed to stay open til 5am for the Mexico match (X). The government initially said it would not relax licensing laws, but U-turned. The GDP is gonna go UP, rejoice.

At the same time, there's some kerfuffle going on with the Green councillor in Hounslow telling pubs in Chiswick they can't put chairs and tables outside for patrons. The council has now backed down after protestors gathered on the river.
I cannot fucking wait to stay until 5am at my local flat-roof pub

I'm going to assume they "U turned" because pubs were going to open regardless and as usual, we don't have the police capability to actually do large scale operations anymore.

So now they don't have to have two lone manlet speccy coppers walking into a pub full of Big Baz's and telling them to leave.

I suspect it's more that given this is a match against Mexico they realised human sacrifice on that scale across the UK resulting from the police trying that would have called forth something horrific.

Government wants to house immigrants/refugees in a former military base, nestled near a nice posho-class village in Bicester. Residents aren't too thrilled. Lib-Dem party leader is upset that his constituency got earmarked for it.

Also, the pro-refugee group Stand Up To Racism... Er... Just started a petition to try and stop it from going forward.

As we saw in the US when we started shipping the migrants they were shoving into red states to places like Martha's Vineyard or New York City, the left loves diversity... over there. Not here. No HERE we vote democrats/labour, WE don't need diversity, YOU do. Go over THERE, THEY will pay for you. Not US. We can't afford it! They can..'t either, but who cares, they NEED diversity, they VOTE WRONG. Not US! We love browns! ... Over there. Not here.

Someone over in the Yookay said they'd start sending diversity to the LibDems' districts as a punitive matter which was stupid... to say out loud. Not to do. They absolutely should do it. It's better that these leeches go home, preferably after the criminals have been hung and their wives/children preferably dying in a small boat accident on the way. But a nice plan B is to shove the biohazards into the clueless boomer fucks who keep voting for this' backyards. A few random stabbings in "such a nice neighborhood" should maybe get them to realize Shimbabu the lalalalkakabar isn't a fucking pet, he's a terrorist and you keep insisting we pay the danegeld.

A Bongland youtuber who puts out content slop of a britoid reacting to American stuff was sent a Capital flag by Congressman Jimmy Patronis of Florida's 1st district.

Screenshot_20260702_230408_YouTube.jpg
Apparently it got tossed by customs at the airport lol.

For those who dont know, a Capital flag is an American flag that gets sent up one of the flagpoles over Congress. There are multiple poles and a new flag is sent up every day. But once flown congressmen package the flag and send it out as an artifact token. Usually to campaign supporters but occasionally for gestures like this.

Rather sad state affairs that the Bong views receiving the gesture as putting him on an enemies list.

As much as I despise boat vermin and want them all drowned, I'm glad "nice" places are having this foisted upon them.

For far too fucking long, those of us who have experienced reality level interactions with immigrants, have seen them for what they are. And it's turned out tolerance to extreme hatred, because it's impossible not to hate nearly all of them. And the whole fucking time, the middle classes who have no fucking idea what sort of hell it is, have been lecturing us to "be kind".

Tell you what, let's see how fucking long their reserves of kindness last. Let's see how they like it when they have to deal with bulb-headed, dysgeninc, mystery meat niggers, following them and being aggressive. Let's see how they like it when one of their own is raped, or worse, and they can't hide behind their mental block of, "well this only happens to working class slags who come from broken homes". How will they feel when there's no social housing at all in their area from people born and raised there, but it's handed on a goddamn platter to Achmed, who by the way, is a criminal but can't be shipped back to his shithole of origin.

This whole thing is, in my mind, like rubbing a cat's nose in the dirty great shit on your lovely carpet.

The state of the country, our country, is a sloppy, fetid shit; it has happened because people who have no lived experience of the problems caused by it have refused to listen to those of us who do, and I say, force them, nose first into that ginormous turd and force them to face up to it.

I only hope and pray that, by the time the penny fucking drops, the resulting shift in voting behavior isn't too late.

Congressman Jimmy Patronis of Florida's 1st district.
Nearly all the "the UK is FUCKED" "they need to overthrow Starmer" "i support arming moderate Brits" tweets by US officials have come from Congressmen and politicos in Florida. Is the sunshine state our biggest ally?

Stand up to Racism protesting the migrants being housed near them in Oxford is absolutely fucking kino. Why would the "far right" protest if they know SutR is there? It's so fucking thin, it's like Crowboroughs Green MP Rachel whoever saying they can't use the RAF Base because it's um. it's uh... it's not heckin' big enough!!! Please send them somewhere else!!!

I'm glad "nice" places are having this foisted upon them.
I agree with your sentiments, but have to disagree in terms of making a slight, but very important distinction.
I whole heartedly agree that the rich areas that voted for immigration for others and not for them should get boatniggers put in their houses.
My issue would be with somewhere like my area. It has voted consistently "no" to immigration, is an area where housing is eye wateringly expensive compared to the rest of the country and therefore has very few brown people. Obviously it still has some Lib Dem dickheads, but I don't see why my constituency should be punished for something it didn't vote for.
But generally I agree - it's always the way with these wonderful woke people - rules for thee but not for me ( or should it be boatniggers for thee, but not for me ).
My area was just no to boatniggers. I don't think we should be punished for that.

No landlord is going to want to do that and I can imagine barely anyone would even show up.

Many working class areas voted for no immigration but still got handed lots of boat nigs, I'm sure your lovely posh area will do their part in welcoming them!
Oh I see. So because they happened to be unlucky / singled out by the government, another area should suffer too that didn't vote for them.
Either you're jealous or don't understand my point.
I'm agreeing that it is terrible what has happened to these areas that voted no to immigration, but still got it. What I'm arguing is that the determinant of where the immigrants go shouldn't be wealth - it should be if you supported the policy.

The only ethnic family in my neighbourhood are a Polish family, I understand your point I was merely Joshin'. I suppose whoever your local government/council is hopefully does a good enough job repelling any immigrant housing in your area.

I do feel like this is going to expose a lot more of NIMBY behaviour tho.

@Heinrich Maneuver Bro, where are Rick Rowes carers?
Please somebody find this mans carers, he clearly needs assistance.

To add more context, I wish I was joking, this is the Green Party Councillor in question.
Ver archivo adjunto 9222331

it appears said councillor (or his staff) has sent the police around to question Alastair Hilton, (X) who initially brought the issue of pub seating being banned in Chiswick to twitter and questioned the councils decisions. Alastair did not schedule a protest outside a councilman's house, he suggested people should meet on the riverside to show how many people wanted to drink (and spend money) at the pub.

edit: spelling
Greens Councillor Rick Rowe and his boyfriend have now assaulted Alastair Hilton in the pub. (X)
Rick Rowe just came to the pub I was in with his boyfriend, knowing I was there, because he’d sent the police to intimidate me earlier. His boyfriend filmed me half the evening. Rick tried to grab my phone twice. It’s on film. He also said confidential information about me that the police had told him. I’m very happy to prosecute him and the police.

ETA: Hilton was interviewed by the Telegraph about the seating outside Chiswick pubs; the bar staff and owners all say that Rowe, the Green party councillor, was the one making referrals to the Labour run council about the 'unauthorised' use of outside seating. Hilton is literally just a regular at one of the pubs, and his day to day work is going around London pubs, drinking and taking photographs.
Pub-goers have triumphed over a Labour-run council which threatened to ban them from drinking along the riverside of a west London suburb.
Three pubs in Chiswick were advised to remove all seating on the river path outside their venues by Hounslow council pending an investigation.
But after an outcry from locals and regulars, the council has made an agreement with the pubs allowing for the chairs to be returned.
The Bull’s Head, The City Barge and The Bell & Crown in Strand-on-the-Green had been told by Hounslow council licensing officers that they must remove the street furniture by Monday.
The row began when The Bull’s Head applied to renew its licence, leading to the temporary removal of the seating. It then emerged that the other two pubs also did not have a licence.
The council has since come to an agreement with the pubs, which allows for the seating to remain in place while they submit licensing applications.
On Wednesday night, the seating was in place at The Bull’s Head and The Bell and Crown, while The City Barge is yet to submit an application.
The businesses did not have permission under the Highways Act to place tables and chairs on the public pavement, although managers and residents said the seating had been in place for decades.

Publicans claim they were told by council officers that they were “obligated” to launch the investigation into the seating arrangements following a single referral. Several locals and bar workers have attributed that to Rick Rowe, a Green party councillor. However, Mr Rowe denied asking for the outdoor seating to be removed.
Messages circulating in online group chats had planned protests against the decision, with residents due to gather at The City Barge to “stand with our fantastic local pubs” on Wednesday evening.
One woman who has lived in the area for 20 years called it a “victory for freedom and a victory for common sense”.
A staff member at The Bell & Crown said: “They’re back – it’s been quite a story with those chairs but they’re back. We’re waiting on a licensing application then they’ll be back for good hopefully.”
Alastair Hilton, a regular at the pub, called the decision to remove the chairs plain “wrong” and said said such decisions were making it harder for pubs to survive.
Speaking to The Telegraph from the pub, he said: “In the summer you’ve got to make every tenner you can, you’ve got to. Every seat that vanishes, it’s another £50, £100. It’s very, very hard to run a business as it is, very hard to run a pub. You can’t have a council coming along and going, well I don’t like this.”
A staff member at The City Barge called it “a shame” to consider the changes “right as summer hits”

Gabriella Giles, Tory councillor for the Chiswick Riverside ward, called the decision to remove the seating an “abuse of power”.
Locals complained about the threat to the pubs in group chats – some blaming Mr Rowe.
When approached for comment, he said: “I did not ask for outdoor seating to be removed, for pubs to be penalised or for the council to take enforcement action.
“I have been working hard to ensure the council allows seating to remain while the licensing applications are reviewed.
“The council has now confirmed with the three pubs that it will not be taking enforcement action while the applications are being considered. Licensing and enforcement decisions sit with Labour-run Hounslow council, its officers and the Labour Cabinet member responsible for licensing.”

Councillor Amy Croft, cabinet member for infrastructure at Hounslow council, said: “We recognise the important role that riverside pubs play in the local community and appreciate their contribution to the area’s economy and character.
“We are required by law to ensure that any outdoor seating and structures placed on the public highway or riverside towpath have the appropriate permissions in place and do not obstruct access for pedestrians, wheelchair users, people with pushchairs or emergency services.
“Following inquiries regarding outdoor furniture and installations at a number of premises on Strand-on-the-Green, officers reviewed the relevant permissions and licence arrangements.
“Where tables, chairs, shelving or other removable furniture are placed on the public highway, businesses are required to hold a pavement licence.”
Ms Croft added: “We are keen to ensure that the pubs can continue trading as normal and therefore we will continue to work constructively with the affected businesses and will process any applications as quickly as possible.”
Paul Lynch, 79, Alderman of the council and former mayor, said: “I’ve been coming here since the 1960s – when I first came here you wouldn’t want to sit out because the river was so smelly.
“Things have improved so much – this is the first backwards things we’ve had. The law should not concern itself with trifles.”

What I'm arguing is that the determinant of where the immigrants go shouldn't be wealth - it should be if you supported the policy.
The only cleaner proxy than "wealth" is being a Jew (and they're rich).

Wealth is proof that the current system, which is absolute poison to the average native, benefits you.

You are, in some way you don't recognize or acknowledge, the problem.
