UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Última edición por un moderador:
It was so rare to see anyone who wasn't white in the 80s, that it stands out as a big event in my childhood memories.
It's funny you say this, one of my stand-out childhood memories is seeing a Sikh lad working in the local fruit shop in our town centre back in the day. I used to affectionately say "hello, towel head!" whenever we were playing out in the street, because he was always nice to me as a kid and I thought he was interesting because he looked different. I have no clue where I heard the term "towel head" or if I just made it up myself naturally.

First time my mum (who is the most racist person I've ever met) heard me say this to him in person, she gave me a clip across the back of head for it, told me to pack it in and apologised on my behalf. In fairness to the brownoid, he was actually cool about it and seemingly took no offence. This was back before they created massive ethnic ghettos and become uppity cunts, though.

In hindsight, I have no clue why the lady who ran the fruit shop never pulled me up on it, because she definitely heard me say it countless times. Maybe she thought he was a towel head as well.

Andy Burnham is claiming he's going to get rid of the whipping system (for Labour). I think he's going to very rapidly learn why the Whips exist in the first place.

Trying to find a woman that isn't some flavour of shitlib is like trying to find a needle in a haystack - we're talking about the gender that'll complain that it's not safe to go outside at night and then proceed to vote for the "import infinity rapists" party (also known as the Greens) because someone sent them an image of a crying brown child. You have to take what you can get.
Plenty of women with overly liberal husbands.

on an unrelated topic, dosen't it just feel GREAT to have foreskin? it feels good to possess that extra glide whilst banging chicks. i'm sure you can relate, fellow foreskin haver?
Green Party voter spotted

They're about. The true needle in the haystack is finding a woman who will be openly Conservative or Nationalist.
PL had to go to a friends bbq this weekend (despite hating all her libshit friends), I wear a small union jack and st georges cross pin nowadays, and everytime this one faggot kept coming near me he dropped some 'I hate Nazis' speech and kept bringing up the 'Britain First' march in Birmingham. So do I, faggot, and I hate commies and traitors like you too.

I member wearing a little St. Georges pin on my shirt to work, big fucking mistake. It wasn't even St. George's day, but still, someone felt "uncomfortable". No longer at that workplace, thankfully.

The more I read about him, the more I've warmed to Mussolini. I don't know if I actually like what he implemented, but at least it was coherent.
'Son of the Century' is doing the rounds (and it's very good despite being pop-history) so Mussolini will enter the 'discourse' more and more on the right, and I saw a million Keirsolini memes. Mussolinis 'big mistake' was not getting a hold of his goons and not fully understanding the violence he'd unleashed (ignoring the big war mistake). Black shirts and militias are a very, very dangerous path to go down.

Thirded. The Nazis spoiled Fascism for everyone.
The Nazis ruined nationalism for everyone, and the idea of nationalism and socialism together.

Disastrous asylum seeker proposals out today. I don't even want to think about them. No more judges deciding who stays, but now 'the community'.

As far as the survival of his government is concerned, the political violence Mussolini used was nothing compared to the terrible idea of entering World War 2. It does need to be pointed out that he came to power in a way that would be impossible in most places today as he was appointed to the position of prime minister by the King of Italy which didn't require mass public support or winning an election.

He almost joined the war on the side of the allies. I wonder how different the world would have been.

This was covered a while back, but generally I don't really care what political opinions my friends, family or whatever have as long as they aren't raging lunatics about it and can express their opinions reasonably.

Most politics is geared to manipulate people in one way or another. What side people often fall on often breaks down to nothing but team sports. I am firmly in the belief that most people simply agree with the politics of their peers because it is socially convenient, not on the relative merits of those positions.

I don't talk about politics often with anyone except with my other fellow online political spergs for these reasons.

Imagine a mostly Muslim community, they just decide to keep taking in every fucking Paki insight, I will try be optimistic, if it gets even worse then I hope this fuels more people to look at Restore's policies, people might actually wake up, press X to doubt though.

My local MP has released a Facebook post about how Reform winning would be a Very Very Bad Thing, and has now launched a campaign about women, for women. Or something.

Which I find very strange, because when she appeared on my doorstep (coincidentally the same day Eddie Izzard was photographed queuing in the Ladies Toilets at some event, and I was quite pissed off about it) I asked her "What is a woman?" and all she could say was "It depends".

I then asked her "Do you think a Woman can have a penis?" She answered again "Well, that depends".

Sounds to me that she is now shitting herself that the tide is turning against her political party AND men in womanface, and her party is struggling for support (it was very strange in her post that she didn't mention anything about Restore, which is actually getting more support in this area) so she is now backtracking on herself and suddenly knows what women are....unless she is counting blokes in dresses as women, too.

A politician backpedalling?
How rare!!!
