A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Linton-On-Ouse, a small village of just 800 people in North Yorkshire is set to receive 3,750 illegal migrants, outnumbering the population by over 4 to 1 (X).
Campaigners who successfully thwarted a previous attempt to house migrants at a former military barracks in their isolated North Yorkshire village have expressed profound shock and vowed to renew their fight after the plan was resurrected.

The government announced on Thursday night that the RAF facility at Linton-on-Ouse would be part of a new scheme to accommodate 3,750 asylum seekers across Ministry of Defence sites.

This development comes four years after celebrations erupted in the village, near York, when then-defence secretary Ben Wallace scrapped proposals to house up to 1,500 asylum seekers at the disused site. That decision followed a high-profile local campaign against the initial plan.

On Friday, Professor Olga Matthias, a prominent figure in the original campaign, reacted to the new announcement with palpable frustration.

"I can scream. Is that good enough?" she said, adding: "Who knew that stupidity has such a big, long shelf-life?"

Speaking to the Press Association, Prof Matthias conveyed the widespread disbelief among residents.

"It’s just disbelief, isn’t it? We’re utterly and completely gobsmacked. Why are they doing this?"

She confirmed that the latest announcement had arrived without warning, stating: "It was thrust upon everyone yesterday. There’s been absolutely no consultation by the Government, none whatsoever."

When asked if the Linton Village Action Group believed their battle was over four years ago, Prof Matthias affirmed: "Yes, we did. For all the reasons that we won the campaign last time – infrastructure, dental, the land floods, it’s isolated, there’s no public transport."

She highlighted the further decline in local amenities: "There was a village shop. Now there’s no village shop. We have cars, it’s our choice to live here, but if you have no car, no prospects, what do you do?"

Prof Matthias also pointed out that the site has undergone further decommissioning since 2022, with some former military houses refurbished and sold.

"The site has significantly deteriorated," she explained. "It was a dangerous site anyway, because it’s got toxic waste all over the place, it’s got asbestos. There’s no power, no water, no phone lines actually on the site. So, if the cost before were prohibitive, they’re now going to be astronomical."

She added a scathing assessment of the government’s financial approach: "Astronomical costs when they’re spending taxpayers’ money doesn’t bother this Government."

Prof Matthias recalled that the government spent millions on the previous plan, including further millions in compensation to the private company slated to run the migrant centre.

"Probably what the most gobsmacking thing is, is it could be the same civil servants dealing with it this time round," she speculated.

Questioning the Home Office’s rationale, Prof Matthias said: "So, why is the Home Office thinking of doing this? Heaven only knows. It does seem to me that it’s important to this Government to be seen to be doing something. Let’s hope this will be the 35th U-turn, or however many they’ve done."

Despite their previous success, the action group never formally disbanded, though Prof Matthias admitted: "we didn’t actually believe that it would raise its head as a proper possibility again."

She concluded with a defiant message: "But we have to fight the fight, because somebody’s decided they need soundbites, and they need to be seen to be doing something. They will spend time, energy, and money on trying to convince us all that we’re wrong, they’re right, and then, like I say, there’ll probably be a U-turn, and they won’t do it."

Prof Matthias also raised concerns about staffing, given the site’s remote location. "It’s isolated. Who’s going to get here on these country roads for a minimum wage job?"

When the initial plans were announced in April 2022, the Home Office stated the facility would provide "safe and cost-effective" accommodation for single adult men claiming asylum in the UK who met suitability criteria.

Senior civil servants faced a two-hour grilling from residents at a heated village meeting, where one local described the community as being "in crisis."

Before the previous plan was abandoned, the local authority had threatened a judicial review, and Rishi Sunak, then a North Yorkshire MP and a candidate for Tory leader, had pledged to scrap the proposal if he entered Downing Street.

Bradford, yes… that would be perfect. Actually let’s just relocate the government to Gruinard, or Rockall, and then drop some low yield nukes on it. Belgium did just fine with no active government for a year or so.

It was just an example of a first-level subdivision that wasn't a state. I could've said prefectures or something but then people would've almost definitely - no, certainly - compared the system to that of the of the Central African Republic's famous prefectural system

I believe the laws specifically do not recognise cisgender or heterosexual as a protected characteristic so the answer is a resounding yes.

Counties got abolished decades ago before many of us were even born yet we're still Xshires first, because you can't invent an identity out of nothing and you've gotta work with what's already there to some extent, it's why "regions" have never really taken off. They're not even especially efficient in the French department kind of way because its the worst of both worlds, with carving up long standing bounds (Warrington in Cheshire, wat?) but still not managing to be scientifically based (why the fuck is Lpool/Mancs conurbation split so haphazardly).

Just bring back counties, they just work ™️, constituencies were never meant to have 100k people in them cleanly across the board, because they don't represent the number of people in a place they represent the People of a Place because that's how ethnicities/nations work, and no matter what (((they))) try and lie to us about we are a nation and always have been.

A man who punched two female police officers at Manchester Airport as they tried to arrest him for headbutting a man in a Starbucks cafe has been jailed for three and a half years.

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, from Rochdale, was convicted at Liverpool Crown Court last year of assaulting PC Lydia Ward, PC Ellie Cook and a Starbucks customer at the airport in July 2024.

Sentencing had been delayed for a re-trial on additional charges that Amaaz had also assaulted a male police officer - PC Zachary Marsden - but the jury again failed to reach a decision and he was cleared.

In a statement read to the court earlier Ward, whose nose was broken in the attack, said: "What you did was cowardly."

Judge Neil Flewitt KC, passing sentence, told Amaaz he was the "aggressor" and said both assaults were "prolonged and unprovoked".

The court heard the fracas, outside Terminal 2, was recorded in footage widely circulated on social media.

But absolutely no two tier system on display here. Might not be the same offence, but how on earth are these two sentences comparable, when severity of crimes are considered ?

I am glad the female cop has resigned as an armed officer. Why she didn't just ventilate this sub-human slime the moment it kicked off, I don't know.

To the pigs on here. I knew of a woman in this situation. She had no support from the force and drank herself to death from the trauma. Just like Raul Moats victim and just like you one day.
 
A few months ago I watched that infamous Pakistani inbreeding first cousin docu from several years ago - I was more or less aware of it in principle but it was pretty fucking illuminating in terms of the actual statistics.

The real thing I took away from it was lifting a sort of horse blinder from my eyes where I hadn't quite put two and two together... I live in area with enough Pakistani people in it, I don't really see them (because I, stupidly it seems, pay for my own housing) except for when I go to the local supermarket.

After watching this doc it was like the penny dropped, every time I've seen a bona fide full on clearly congentially fucked up retard, they've been in tow of a hijab wearing Pakistani woman. It is to the degree, I'd estimate, that I can't go to the shops without seeing some sort of extremely low functioning Pakistani person - usually male, I assume they don't let the women out - any time I go to the supermarket. I would like to stress, again, there are not an exceptional amount of them where I live either.

I just felt I had to share these musings because at the shops today I almost banged my trolley into an actual microcephalic Pakistani man today - sans letterbox person carer - and it threw me for a loop. I've never seen a microcephalic person in my fucking life, but what are the odds they'd be from Pakistan?

Pretty fucking high, I guess.

If Big Baz or his teenage kid Daz had done that, they’d be in prison for ten years or more, and the charge for kicking off at the male copper would’ve absolutely stuck too. Fucking joke of a legal system.

I don’t watch tv if I can help it, but lately I’ve been exposed to it a few times (along with online advertising). Why does every single programme have to have black or Asian people in it? Every ad? Despite what the governmental overlords and the BBC would have us believe, we’re still by far a white country. So why are there always non-white people in all our media? (I know why, but it’s fucking infuriating to see). It’s also thunk-worthy that it’s always a very specific set of immigrants. There are never South Americans, Japanese, Chinese (and there are loads of Chinese over here), and certainly never other European nationalities. Are these people not migrants and minorities in the U.K. too? Why do they not get this wonderful representation in the media that Africans and Asians get?

The media is one fucking enormous propaganda machine, and even slop like soaps and those I want to be a businessman give me money programmes are full of this bullshit. Starting to think we should pool our resources and begin shooping ads ourselves, replacing the favoured nations with unrepresented ones. How can it be racist when we’re subbing one non-Brit with another?

As for dumping 3,500+ single male illegals in the middle of the Yorkshire countryside, absolute fucking insanity. SEND THEM HOME. It has to be cheaper to do so than the millions spent of these immigration centres. The fuckers aren’t here legally. GO THE FUCK AWAY. I don’t give a shit about refugees asylum wah wah, there’s a legal way to immigrate, and if you don’t do it you can gtfo. There are no countries bordering ours at war, so these people have no right to be here. Stick them on a plane home. They’re not citizens, stop giving them rights and wasting millions on them - especially when the government, in the next breath, talk about slashing spending on benefits, pensions, and all the other stuff they’re supposed to do to support the actual population.

Westminster must have some spare rooms. Put the illegals there while their claim their fake asylum, let them eat at the Parliament dining room with the MPs. We’ll soon see how the powers that be like it.

Because I am a sinner and God hates me, I've had reason to spend time in a brain and spinal injury/rehab centre. There's a weird feeling that I experience when seeing a spudbaby in-person; dunno if it's empathy or whatever (probs not: see the use of 'spudbaby' just now) but I get a sense of vertigo. Like, 'you are looking at something fundamentally broken, wearing the shape of a human, and you are uncomfortable with this.' Anyone else get that? It's an abyssal horror, looking into the eyes of a nominally conscious human being, and knowing that they aren't looking back.

Anyway, I've felt the same feeling with certain shopkeepers. You know? It's a hot day, you fancy a refreshing Diet Coke, you walk into a weirdly sparse 'conveinnce store' and... there it is. Same vacant expression, same sense of 'broken brain human, stay uncomfortable' except this time its simply a hard-working immigrant slowly demanding £2 off you for a warm Panda Pop.

Dude,just a reminder: God loves you. It might not feel like it at times (I have a neurological issue of my own, and I get it can be insanely hard) and things can feel like a punishment. But he loves you more than you will ever understand.

I saw an advert recently set in small town Ireland in 1985, and the featured family is mixed race, which I don't really need to tell you means black dad-white mum. Around 1985 I saw what I now presume was a sikh man in a department store in Ireland, and I literally hid behind a clothes display as I watched him in utter fascination. It was so rare to see anyone who wasn't white in the 80s, that it stands out as a big event in my childhood memories. But in the adverts, 80s Ireland was a multicultural mecca.

Edit, found advert. At least all the comments on it, are calling it out for the social engineering that it it.

I did notice the Home Office communication yesterday for the announcement that boatpeople would be shoved into MoD barracks used the term "illegal migrants" instead of "asylum seekers", so I wonder if that was related to the new rapefugee thing. Universities have been under a bit of scrutiny for abusing student visas to stay open also.
