A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Could someone give me a tldr of why Starmer resigned?
I've been looking through the thread and all I saw is that it's pretty commonplace for PM's to resign.
Also seeing that maybe it's partly due to him trying to do some fiscal reform (that didn't really work)
So instead they're going to install some leftist who wants to start nationalizing public utilities or some shit?

Wait is this that crazy one who's obsessed with Britney Spears?
Indeed.
@KeeKeeCooch thoughts on Britney? I think a fresh conservatorship or some equivalent is on the horizon.
Could someone give me a tldr of why Starmer resigned?
For many reasons his position was made untenable, he could've clung to his desk and refused to go, but he'd be one step removed from being physically removed, and when the writing is already on the wall like that it'd just be embarrassing, better to jump before you're pushed and all that.

There's not really been one inciting incident. The Mandelson scandal was the real start of all this, and more recently there's been concerns about his insufficient spending on national security. But basically it's because nobody really likes him. He can't control the backbenchers, his nickname "Two Tier Keir" has stuck, Labour MPs are fearful of Reform winning at the next election. So they just wanted someone new in post because they think they're guaranteed to lose if Keir leads them into the next election. That's pretty much it, Andy Burnham doesn't have much in the way of radical proposals, he just is someone new that they hope they can get a refresh with.

Mathematics isn't a plural noun
Yes, it is, as are the others you mentioned. Other words using adopting the ικός suffix are singular (music, logic, magic).
Arithmetic is part of mathematics, but arithmetics are not part of mathematic.
Does it make sense? No. Would I like a drink? Yes. Yes I would.

I'd be inclined to agree with you if you didn't cut out the majority of what you're replying to, so I'll repeat it: do you say "mathematics are hard" or "mathematics is hard"?

(Also you're confusing -ική and -ικά)

The use of a plural with singular grammar - or vice versa - is not a particularly helpful guide. If I say "Look at the data" would you start "erm actually"-ing about more than one datum? Like @Overly Serious asked, do you put on your pant?
England is playing Ghana tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose.
As to your question I'd say 6×7 is easy, but

is hard- there's definitely more than one math, whatever indicative you use.

Could someone give me a tldr of why Starmer resigned?
  • Poor election results last month.
  • High-profile cabinet resignations from said elections.
  • A row over defence spending.
  • Peter Mandelson Scandal probably didn't help
  • No support from MPs after election results.
  • A leadership challenge from Andy Burnham.
  • He is deeply unpopular and thus will hurt future election results.
They really don't want Reform (or any of the other smaller parties) to start getting in anywhere. Once that happens, Labour and the Conservatives are dead.
The fact that Restore got 7% and they weren't even a political party until this year says a lot.

I know someone posted this earlier. Just saw this in the Mail - Don't know if it shows anything different.

Police probe video showing officers attacking group of young girls with baton and Tasers as fight breaks out on Rotherham street

South Yorkshire Police said: 'The short clip on social media of the police response to an incident in Rotherham over the weekend appears nothing short of shocking.

The man filming the action screams: 'He has got the baton. What are they doing?'

He then stood with his baton raised and forcefully shoved another girl away.

At this point, another officer was pushed by one of the group and appeared to respond aggressively by punching her and shoving her backwards, causing her to fall on the ground.

Two officers dressed in black then arrived and pointed Tasers towards the group, ordering people to 'get back'.

South Yorkshire Police said: 'The short clip on social media of the police response to an incident in Rotherham over the weekend appears nothing short of shocking.

'Our PSD are reviewing this and all available footage, including Body Worn Video, of the full response to the 999 call to understand what happened before, during, and after what is publicly available.

'Their assessment will inform our next steps. At South Yorkshire Police, we want our officers to be professional and their actions to be lawful, proportionate, and fair. '

Rotherham. Ironic really when you think about it. Perhaps they were objecting to having bottles shoved up their cracks by pakis?

LOL. At the end of the video they actually fucking arrested them as well. Sweet Jesus.

Rupert Lowe said something unbelievably retarded in an interview the other day, and it's causing a bit of carry on within Restore. Reform supporters are definitely capitalising on this, but I can hardly blame them when it's a rare case of shit optics on Lowe's part.

I can't find the clip right now because I don't have X on my phone, but he said something that effectively conflated ethno-nationalism with nazism and denounced them both at once, while being interviewed by a literal Jew.

This Xeet is probably the most relevant in terms of seeing the inter-party backlash and Reform "haha guess you may as well vote for us then!" response to his statement:

Personally, I think that Lowe (being a boomer) either conflated the two concepts in his head and is trying to make sure that he's electable to other boomers and gen xers who hear ethno-nationalism and have a meltdown, or he's had a rare wobbly-leg moment and actually caved to media scrutiny to avoid appearing as an extremist. I think the worst of the two is the latter, and I think that's probably what happened in this case if I'm being honest.

Either way, piss-poor showing from are rupe. He needs to make a statement ASAP to clarify his beliefs and maybe apologise to the eth-nats who make up the vast majority of his party. There's definitely a path to where he can fix this and have it blow over, but he needs to act fast because the shitstorm is brewing big style. An "I don't care" Xeet isn't gonna cut it this time.

Eva isn't British/English. I wouldn't be surprised if 20% of the people who post here aren't natives and are just larpers due to cope and seethe.
No, no, they have freely admitted to voting for Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London.
I'm sure London can survive without having billions on money invested through illegal channels for once. The establishment has pretty much made London the control point of the UK. While the rest of the country falls to shit. Don't they say that if London was taken out of the picture, most of England would be below most US states? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Even with London in the picture its the lowest of them all, Mississippi having recently surpassed it in per capita GDP.

If one more person says they’re from Crewe I’m gonna petition null to change the thread title to the Polish news megathread.
Wouldn't they be writing it as Krewzwyec or something else equally unpronounceable and unspellable?
They cancelled my son's sports day because it's too hot.
Let me guess, the mercury hit 31C?
Yeah, you don't have to deal with those problems caused by low-trust individuals because you used the EU to send all your gypsies over to us. Prick.
Fact check: False. Many buildings in the UK still contain copper wiring.

I'd add to this, the sheer number of U-turns he was responsible.

One example: winter fuel allowance. My parents got it (but didn't really need it, like a lot of old people). They were annoyed when he said he would scrap it. Then they were annoyed again when he said he wouldn't scrap it.

I think the British public generally don't respect ditherers. They'd probably prefer someone that they disagree with but sticks to their principles (or at least has identifiable principles that you can disagree with). Starmer had something like 14 or 15 high profile U-turns in his short term. People don't like it!

So he hasn’t had a major blow up defeat which has led to him resigning like a lot of the others before him, but it’s been this slow crawl of him being deeply unpopular combined with some of the most fucking retarded policies and optics possible. First thing to remember is he got in on a massive majority but that was in essence a protest vote against the shower of shit that was the Tories. Not actually indicative of him being super popular. He then in 2 years:

  • Removed winter fuel payments for pensioners except for the poorest, meaning you now had old people freezing in their houses, immediately hit the old people who likely to turn up to vote. Easy to frame it as him killing old people.
  • Had numerous u-turns on unpopular policy. Welfare and disability reforms, 2 child benefit cap, farmer inheritance tax and so on. Indecision when people wanted quick change. Sense of “we are going to do something big” and then turning once they realised it hits their polls. Also pushing some genuinely unpopular shit like Digital ID or ID for internet under the classic safety for children excuse - more nanny state shit.
  • Southport stabbing and protests/riots also got him branded as Two-tier Kier, two tiers of policing standards, a more lax one for blacks and Muslims, a harsher one for whites. This only amplified with that recent Nowak stabbing by the Sikh that really showed how far the rot is in these institutions.
  • Lord Alli freebies scandal - turns out one of the biggest donors to Labour in Lord Alli had been giving Kier all kinds of feeebies and substantial gifts. The kind that, as a KC (barrister) he should, by virtue of his original job, know is a conflict of interest and very bad look. He took them anyways - 30,000 for clothes, 2500 for glasses, use of his property, concert tickets etc. None of which he declared. This was time of winter fuel as well so he’s looking as oily as can be for a British politician.
  • Peter Mandelson scandal - this was the big one. Mandelson is an old Blairite political heavyweight who by now has a well documented relationship with one Jeffery Epstein. Emails, financial ties etc, including way back to Epstein 2008 conviction for sex offences. Starmer wanted him in as UK ambassador to the US. He was informed of the reputational risk, but also a security clearance/vetting failure - UK Security Vetting recommended a denial of clearance and the Foreign office overruled this and put him in. Blew up, Mandelson later arrested and it looks very very bad.

So this is all that’s gone on over the 2 years. Anyone (which you see on X) is either a retard or doing the “pretend not to understand” that they love doing.

Also to be added, it is his party who is getting rid of him. They look at Reform with Farage and see him as a big scare, they look at Restore as another one that could in some time develop into another big threat. Add on that for Restore, he was asked to do a rape gang inquiry and refused, so the party and Rupert Lowe did their own one and pulled zero punches dancing around the issue. Labour looks at him and think if this goes to a GE he will lead them to a shit kicking.

So they have gotten rid of him, they have set up Andy Burnham, this “King of the North”, mayor of Greater Manchester who is popular with the north to come in. God knows what that old socialist whose experience is being in politics for 30 years or so is going to be, but they are clearly hoping he might do something. I suspect the white hall mandarins will not enjoy having this guy around and he will probably have a short term himself. One thing being regional mayor vs leader of a nation.

How is the public going to be better informed by switching?
Because seeing the true state of how poor we are might make them a bit prone to do something?
mayor of Greater Manchester who is popular with the north
He’s popular with one specific slice of Mancunian gayness. Not ‘the north.’

Physics and mathematics get their etymological form from the 16c, where the neuter plural of an adjective of the ‘ikos’ -ics ending (pertaining to/matters of) was used. If you look at English written before 15c ish you tend to see the -ic form. It was just something that for some reason became ‘set’ around the time mass printing arrived, like an awful lot of our spellings, usages etc.
‘Math’ sounds dumb, either ways

So this "County Lines are Phone Lines" thing she said. I don't get it. They're not, right? To me "country lines" means the jurisdictional boundaries between different police forces and they're exploited by criminals because committing your crimes in a different jurisdiction makes it more of a headache for them to deal with you. That's what I always understood. I've never heard any one claim it means phone numbers.

I know someone posted this earlier. Just saw this in the Mail - Don't know if it shows anything different.

What sort of man wants to pull out a baton on a woman? What sort of man needs to? Women can get rowdy but these girls are half their age and size. Batons? Fucking tasers? I bet this escalated in the first place because the police over-reacted to something.
