UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Última edición por un moderador:
So what would a potential Burnham regime look like? Even more green lunacy? U-turning on Israel? OFCOM sending more ineffectual letters to Josh?
He might try to pivot to youth-appeal to take from the Greens (maybe he'll do something about the OSA), and be more vocally anti (illegal) immigrant to take from Reform.

Burnham's mayorship implemented stricter police procedures which were actually beneficial. But soon after these were introduced, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (gmca) stripped him of the only piece of power he actually had as mayor to create 24 new paid positions for Labour chums thus turning the mayor position into a glorified if well paying ceremonial post.

Using this example we'll either get a:
1) Surprisingly (by Labour standards) based regime, now that he's freed from the thumb of the GMCA. (Conversely, it'll be doubly cringe, trying to prevent losses to the Greens)
2) History repeats and Burnhum is completely subservient to the Labour party apparatchik like in Manchester and will be somewhere between Gordon Brown and Starmer with a touch of late 2010s/early2020s progressivism.

He could 1:1 mirror Starmer, which means there'll be an early GE, but for June 2028—the bare minimum 2 year gap to qualify for severance pay if he loses the PM and MP positions.

Worse.

So this isn't a one-word post I'll add that Kei resigning could be good for those of us that utterly despise Labour.

It turns it from Burnham ousting him to Keir handing over power. At which point when Burnham overturns basically none of his policies everyone should be asking, "what's actually changed?" You would expect someone who objected to what the prior guy was doing to the degree he forced a leadership challenge to be gutting Keir's policies which won't happen. That was always going to be the case but Keir going willingly makes it easier to point out that nothing Burnham allegedly was opposed to has been undone.

If we're really lucky Burnham will keep some of Keir's cabinet just to make it clearer.

The only hope I have from a potential Burnham premiership is that he ousts the slightly below average IQ gorilla known as David Lammy from the cabinet, the fact that creature is at the heart of government should be a national scandal.

Why do I feel like those in power have been handed a golden opportunity politically and can't help but fuck it up. I genuinely think while people will think what the lad did was horrible they will also see all the double think the mainstream start coming outwith. If they chose to play this sensibly and write it off as mentally ill man instead of "evil far right terrorist" they might keep some people onside.

But they just can't help but act like retards can they?

So far from what is most likely going to happen, he is going to fire Reeves, Lammy, and probably Miliband for power reasons. He has been told repeatedly by advisors not to pursue nut zero.

Any positive ratings will be short-lived. His victory is a monkey paw wish of the highest order. He has inherited the most ineffective, incompetent UK government in its history, with all the baggage.

He is Truss 2.0, like I said the other day. The fact that the Bank of England, etc., hate him already means they are going to cous his ass in months.

That catholic church thing is the media's greatest fucking psyop of our time compared to how much worse literally every other religion is for rape.
I hope your neighbors get savaged.

Father Ted has got a lot to answer for!

Whoever replaces starmer, assuming he's replaced, they're going to double down on nut zero, internet monitoring, and "legal" mass migration.

I'm doubling down on Nut Zero! No-Fap FTW!

Remember that kid that got thrown in to the croc pit? Turns out that kid is lucky to be alive.

At this point, the child is thought to have been gripped by either a saltwater or Nile crocodile. The saltwater crocodile has the strongest bite of any living animal.

[I'm experimenting with different ways to archive stuff as I notice different places are getting wise to the old Remove Paywall and Archive.is way of doing things. Just found out that you can save a web page as a full size image in Firefox by pressing Ctrl>Shft>S and selecting save full page. Let's see if it works...]

(The Times is behind a paywall and I have a sub - half the time though it won't archive properly for whatever reason)

croc1.png.webp

[Uh, needs a bit of work, certainly not ideal and a bit of a faff, but whatevs, at least you can read the article if it won't archive properly. (For all the computer illiterates out there: click on the image then zoom in - et voila! Full web page!)]

Turns out it was a spakker that threw the kid in and his tard-wranglers were goofing off on their mobile phones. But never mind all that.

Visitors are able to feed the reptiles at a cost of £80 for a 30-minute session.

Fuck me dead! 80 quid! That's an arm and a leg! Hopefully figuratively and not literally. They're robbin' 'em blind. The thieving pikey bastards! No wonder the whole family jumped in to save the kid. That's some major grift they got going on there. Cheeky fuckers.

‘Putney pusher’ arrest came after police spoke to former partner

[Another experiment at archiving when the usual tools don't work. This time I used the 'SingleFile' extension in Firefox which is amazingly good. It seems that it properly embeds everything in to a single .html file even video - I have to include this as an attachment - let's see if this works as well - it's quite a large file - 33MB]

You need to click on the 'Putney Pusher' attachment below to open it.

Ok, that is even less than ideal, you'll have to download the file to your desktop and open it yourself, still, it's another way of distributing archived stuff that works very well even if it is a pain. Let's try something else. PDF. Firefox Application Menu>Print>Select custom pages to snip off any extra stuff you don't need to keep file size down. 4MB! Still can't embed though so you still need to download it. Still less than ideal, but another way to work at much smaller files sizes if needed. No video of course.

The PDF works a bit better if like me your browser is set to auto open .pdf files. That may or may not be a good thing security wise unless you know what you're doing. And of course, you should make sure you have your browser settings so as .pdf files can not auto execute code which can be malicious. PDF files are a massive security risk, if you didn't know. Do this for any browser that automatically opens .pdf files.

I guess the Ctrl>Shft>S option to save a .png file is the best unless you want to embed video.

It's interesting that they're going ahead with this. I've found out the guy's name and I even have some lovely photos of him and his pals at his wedding. The website I got them from decided to 'SHUT IT DOWN' but of course, that is no problem to a ninja hacker like me with l33t skillz.

You can see why he was 'passed over' originally when they found out who he was. He actually got off quite lightly when he had a road traffic accident a few years back and hit a woman, so he's not a stranger to 'privilege'. I guess his time has come. What on earth possessed him to do that? And the sheer arrogance to then jog back over the bridge where you have just nearly murdered someone. Sure, he needed to get back to the office or his home or wtf, but he could have got a taxi. The potato camera mugshots of him even look like him as well, so I'm 90 percent certain it's the same person. I'll hold off for now from naming him and putting his photos out there. It's not difficult to find with a little detective work (no l33t skillz needed).

Don't forget there's video embedded in the .html attachment if you want to see what he did.

Police 'toned down' statement of mother whose hotel worker daughter was murdered by an asylum seeker in case it led to race riots

Police 'guided' the family of a hotel worker in 'toning down' their public statements after she was murdered by an asylum seeker – in case their words led to anti-immigration rioting.
Rhiannon Whyte, 27, was stabbed 23 times with a screwdriver by Sudanese national Deng Majek while waiting at a train station.

Majek, 28, spent the night dancing around the Park Inn Hotel in Bescot, Walsall, where Rhiannon worked and which was being used to house asylum seekers. He was jailed for 29 years in January.

Her death came two months after the fatal stabbings of three young girls in Southport in July 2024 by 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, a British citizen of Rwandan descent.

This was the woman that got murdered:

And this is the aspiring rapper/doctor who did it:

Also from Sudan. Just like the bloke that attacked the disabled man in Norn Iron that caused the riots - he was actually an ex policeman from Khartoum, if you didn't know. It's a war infested and famine ridden shit hole. But fuck it, go on then, let's invite them all over here.

What could possibly go wrong?

It's going to be exactly the same, except with a greater emphasis on damaging London's economy to try to funnel money to the North. There's a reason the media keeps using the word "Manchesterism".

Tax and spend, borrow and spend. Houses for migrants ( especially Labour's chosen people ).
He intends to borrow to fund defence.
He talks big about slashing the welfare bill......wonder how big his balls will be as an unelected PM when the backbench says no ?
He says he will honour the manifesto - so in other words he'll attack everything that wasn't expressly mentioned - council tax, inheritence tax.

The markets are going to hate Jon Snow the King of the North. If he tries to borrow to spend, expect 10 year Gilts to throw a fit, with the associated consequences.
I expect him to last longer than Truss ( who they hated for other reasons ) and possibly limp along for a couple of years or so to the next election. When hopefully even the "I vote Labour because my grandad did" crowd will be sick of them and they get annihilated.
