A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I have no doubt at all the plan was to get subversives like her involved so they could cover it up, water it down, and bury it where no one would ever read it. Much like with AfD, having Restore bans constantly floated but resulting in nothing benefits the blob, Labour, Tories, Farage, etc. Unless they actually get sufficient power, it's useful to have a punching bag on 20% to justify your oppressive state and distract from issues.

Letter writing is a way to show solidarity and encouragement and a chance to take the harsh edges off the ugly space they are confined to.
There are a number of ways to write to the Filton4 (Fatema Zainab, Sam, Lottie and Ellie):

1. Grab a pen and paper to write or draw your message. Post it using the prison number and addresses provided on the following pages. Include one stamp on the front and one inside the envelope (if you want a response). Just google the prison to find the address.
2. Online, you can create an account with emailaprisoner.com using their prison address and number to send a message
3. Get the community together and organise a letter writing workshop!

PLEASE NOTE:
Unfortunately the guards get to decide whether the prisoners receive their letters or not. For the best chance to reach them avoid offensive language or anything incriminating. Since Palestine Action is now a proscribed group it is best to avoid mentioning. Please do not ask them anything regarding the case for legal reasons.

There are 3 other trials for the other 19 actionists ending in 2027. The stitch up retrial convicted four of the initial six of criminal damage and they have been sentenced as terrorists on 12 June 2026.

Teacher who murdered and abused adopted baby jailed

A teacher who sexually abused and murdered the 13-month-old baby boy he adopted with his partner has been told he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Preston Davey died in July 2023 at the hands of Jamie Varley, 37, who subjected the child to physical, sexual and emotional abuse during the final four months of his life.

Varley, from Blackpool, told police Preston had accidentally drowned in a bath, but a post-mortem examination discovered the child had suffered 40 injuries.

His partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, who was found guilty of sexual assault, child cruelty and allowing the death of a child, was sentenced to 25 years.

A whole life order means that Varley will never be released from prison, except in exceptional compassionate circumstances.

I absolutely despise the police. But assaulting anyone like that is disgraceful. Absolutely no need for it. Especially in a way which could have paralyzed them.

Also I know the country is going to shit and it's all a mess but I'm now on annual leave. There is something absolutely wonderful about turning on your out-of-office and skipping off into the sunrise while other people are heading in for the day. We're going away tomorrow (somewhere very remote and far from here) and I am so looking forward to it. I know this is entirely anecdotal good news for which I apologize but damn. It feels good.
