One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".
Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."
TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.
"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.
Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."
Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".
The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".
It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.
The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

There's a few things going on here. First of all, they are employed to make members of the public feel safer and enhance community safety. Stop laughing at the back! That's a hate crime!

Today the Mail can reveal the pair had been using intimidatory tactics to coerce members of the public into paying fines for supposed civil offences in the days leading up to the threat that got them fired.
Among a series of incidents they are said to have snapped off one motorist's car key in the ignition to prevent him from driving away while they pressured him - and left a vulnerable elderly woman resident in tears by falsely accusing her of dropping litter before threatening to call the police if she didn't pay £100.
The pair are also alleged to have had an animus against Hindus and Sikhs and to have mercilessly targeted members of both communities around the north-west London borough.
We have further learned that the resident they threatened in the now notorious video had incurred their fury when he intervened to protect a young woman he saw them trying to bully over a trumped up charge of spitting on the pavement.
So I guess they are muzzies after all if they are going after the Hindus and Sikhs. Not hate crimes here M'lud. It was all an Ooppsie Technical Issue.

So he falsified where the event took place because it was private property and shouldn't have even been there (please correct me if I'm wrong), and he also falsified the reason why he tried to fine her because saying "she left a kale leaf in her trolley" might not have been taken seriously, and let's face it, it's not littering, it's a mistake anyone could make and obviously an oversight. Then the council 'Ooopsied' themselves out of it on that old chesnut: TECHNICAL ISSUE. (I wonder how Sainsbury's would feel knowing their customers are being openly harrassed with threats of multi-thousand pound fines for leaving a fucking lettuce leaf in their trolley by mistake?)
