A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The amount of seething in that post about pakistan kek that was clearly made by an indian still mad about partition. Also what point are you trying to make, Britain changed allegiances due to changing geo-political circumstances nearly 200 years ago and have had a retarded immigration policy after ww2 so pensioners should get over 10% of all British government spending?

I legitimately don't know what point that word salad is trying to make, what the fuck does that have to do with pension spending? Are you indian perchance?
You think I post anything on here other than for laughs and reactions?

No surely not. 6 million? Nah. That number is way too high lets be honest. I don't think the police even do 6 million work hours a year to cut out.
ETA: something is going down in East Kilbride; ast night protestors allegedly tried to get into a migrant hotel, a 'decent turnout' (X). There is a migrant riot breaking out at an IPA centre in Dublin. Stoke on trent and Sheffield have videos of disturbances too.
Apparently a lot of shit happened up north on both islands. Just everyone was looking at Ulster and I couldn't see much about the Scots.
They're not even acting like niggers anymore. They are acting like literal monkeys. And we know the saying about feeding monkeys.
We are a fucking island. We should be a fortress. None of these people are swimming here, we should have absolute control of our borders. That we don’t is treason.
Almost every single bunker we built to stop violent foreigners invading and conquering our land in the early part of the last century is still mostly fit for purpose or would need minimal work to restore for use the the early part of this century. We have the defences. We are a fortress. We have just left the door open.

I was waiting for someone to punch her in her stupid fucking face, but it didn't happen. Pls don't post shit that doesn't have the feel-good ending.

The fuck was even going on here?
Footage of the average Green voter.

Or to be less dismissive the standard behaviour of the "protestors" used by Stand Up To Racism or Hope Not Hate as agitators. They're barely sentient and will do everything they can to rile up a response including spitting, slapping and threatening people's family. When inevitably someone loses their patience and smacks them one the trained observers on side capture the moment the nasty far right thug assaults an innocent minority women with mental health issues for no reason. Friendly media sources run it without question and co-ordinated sources circulate it on social media.

Both of those women need a foot up the ass and 2 years of having to actually work for the first time in their lives.

pension spending?

My parents are early boomers. Grew up in abject poverty, no electricity, outside toilets. Worked from 15 and 16, never went to uni, brought us all up, and now have a small house paid off and a pension. I bregrudge them nothing. They worked, they paid in. They deserve looking after.
Someone crippled in a pit accident deserves looking after. Soldiers injured deserve looking after. We can do that, we are spending fucking billions a year on migrants in hotels and if we stopped spending money on translators, NHS care for them, hotels and just prevented them from landing, we could look after our old, our weak, OUR vulnerable.

absolutely correct and something I really believe - all those taboos and ‘old fashioned’ social rules had a reason.
This is a familiar story. My folks are similar - worked their way up the ladder, extra hours, weekends, double shifts, paid their taxes. How can anyone begrudge this ? There does seem to be a false narrative now coming out of certain media outlets that people who have worked all their lives and retired are in some way responsible for this generation's malaise. Well I call bullshit.

You mean there was a social contract made with the government. You work, pay NI to fund the current pensioners, in the expectation that the next generation will do the same for you. The only way I can see this reasonably being broken is if the government give the population a lot of notice - i.e. 20 years minimum, probably more like 30.

I don't resent my NI payments. If they pay for my forefathers who built this once great nation to have some restful years, that's fine.
I resent paying for the pensioners that have never worked a day in their life and never contributed ( amongst the current generation, I think these are few and far between ) - just as I resent the current generation of anxious dole bludging ponces. I resent those on long term unemployment benefit far more than pensioners.

For those opposed to a state pension.....I hope you realise that you too will one day be old. Whilst I appreciate the modern way is to have a private pension, ISAs, property and alternative investments ( gold and jewellery, art and antiques, wine ) - i.e. not be so reliant on the state, my expectation would still be that this pension is universal, no matter how basic. Possibly a compromise to the situation would be to abandon the triple lock and just increase the pension in line with inflation. I really don't think the triple lock is sustainable in an economy with the kind of stunted "growth" Reeves is "stimulating". When we have a chancellor that is capable of increasing the wealth of the nation in a meaningful way, then it might be possible to then reintroduce these generous means. But I would imagine industry, energy and defence spending are the key levers at the moment - get the nation growing again. Then start simultaneously reducing welfare and taxation - to encourage more people back into work.

Even if a pensioner is a millionaire on retirement the chances are to be there, they will also have paid a fortune in NI over their lifetime. Whether they need it or not, they are entitled.
Anyone complaining about a pensioner being a millionaire on retirement sounds jealous to me. Nothing to stop anyone being in that situation if they graft for it. It might be difficult, it might be that you have to make sacrifices, but it can be done.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows . It's a very mean and nasty place, and I don't care how tough you are , it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that.

The reason for social rules, folk tales and even the bible forming our culture are that they are the collected wisdom of the masses over millennia. Thousands of lives worth of experience go into those conventions - it is the blueprint for an ordered, structured, successful and peaceful society. They formed the fundamentals of England - "don't steal, do unto others as you would have them do to you, be polite, take responsibility for you and your family, don't get in debt, everything in moderation, patience, resilience".....the list goes on.
Only foolish or people that aren't really English ignore these messages. I see the opposites of these virtues increasingly on display every day, it is very much contributing to the breakdown of our society and the direction we are heading in.

Both of those women need a foot up the ass and 2 years of having to actually work for the first time in their lives.
You are a more generous human being than me.
What they need is to be dragged around the back of the building and given both barrels to the head. It's kinder to the animal in the long run.

Yes, and when I am, I won't get a pension. That's sort of the root of the issue. Is that I am paying into it, and there's basically zero chance I'm ever going to be able to meaningfully - or at all! - use the fucking thing. Why am I then paying it?! Why should I? That's why people are pissed off at "The Olds". Because the country is in ruins, and all the things we are paying for, and into, we cannot access. It's money pissed up the wall, to pay for other peoples things.

I don't agree with that take, largely because The Olds really could not have done much more than what they already did, short of literally overthrowing government. People were telling the boat people to fuck off, as far back as Windrush, and the government still didn't listen then. But I get why people are pissed off.

I consider them the same as the protestors at the Karmelo trial. They're predominately low intelligence individuals who've been fed non-stop lies for decades and believe them. If I swallowed the same shit without question I could easily be them. It's not the fault of the individuals, it's those who pour the poison down their neck.

I know you addressed it in the second half of your post but it's an excellent example. The loudest voices screaming, "it's those selfish pensioners who paid tax and NI for four decades who are taking from you" are those also yelling, "white people need to give 90% of their money to those people they've oppressed." The attempt to get people to be outraged about those getting a state pension is fairly blatant scapegoating away from much better targets.

Like you I'm confident I'll never get a state pension. I am also certain, despite others thinking differently, that there will be no recompense to those who have paid in under that assumption. I am fortunate enough to have enough free cash to be paying into private pensions but the additional fact that those who have never worked in their lives will receive state pension when the rest of us do not irks me beyond all measure. I would unironically vote for liquification for everyone that has a non-serious illness and has never worked by age 40.

I don't get it myself. I've always had a job. I've worked since I was 16. The longest I've been out of work was during my Masters year; and even that was only for 6 months. I have family that are benefits scroungers and I'm ashamed to be around them. I hate being near them at family gatherings. I also always wonder what they do with their day? I lose my mind if I have more than a few hours free in the day.

This always reminds me of what that based black dude said: "Not a single boat should reach the shore."

Should have knocked those fucking piano keys down her throat in self defence. Dirty brown cunt. Fucking hate spitting, it's subhuman shitskin behaviour.

Nice juggling clubs in her backpack, btw. I'm sure the police approached her and arrested her for going equipped to a protest after this footage ended up online... Yeah fucking right.

So you're being ripped off by the government. Ha. Get in line.
This is what annoys you ? Where is this on your list of grievances ?!
I'm in the same situation - very much doubt I will see a bean either, got 20 years roughly to be eligible. Been paying my 8% for 30 years or so, averaging £3k a year, so around £100k just on NI. Before we even get to income tax.....stamp duty, VAT....council tax.
Trouble is I rather like my Mum and Dad. So way I look at it, is my NI is funding their retirement. I can live with that. My Dad fully intends to live to a ripe old age too, wants to get his money's worth "having knocked his cods out for years". I really hope the pension does last so I can say the same thing !

I think the theory is that the generation before you gave you life, fought in wars to defend our nation, built the infrastructure and contributed to the wealth of the nation before you ( so the standard of living is such that we don't live in mud huts - I know Rachel is doing her best to get us there on this last point ).

As somebody that doesn't have kids, I get absolutely shafted by the State - I really think I get nothing from them, other than our wonderful roads, streetlights and our awesome national defence ( economic theory defines these as public goods ). As for health care, education, etc ( merit goods ) - I'm not sure you can put their unavailability due to immigration that happened whilst pensioners were voting down as the pensioners' fault.
The population consistently voted against this, it was the political class that gave us more. I would be more inclined to blame them than an 80 year old coffin dodger. It is the political class that created this mess, not pensioners who worked and paid into the system as we are doing now.

This is what annoys you ? Where is this on your list of grievances ?!
It's all a big schizo board labelled "WHERE THE FUCK IS MY MONEY!?!?!?!?!" A big aether of tard rage that I stab at with a knife every time I see my taxes. I agree 100% that is is the political classes that have caused this issue and they should be pulled apart by industrial claws, but then if you want to fix the issue, do we just shrug and say "Oh well?"

I agree with you, I like my parents, and my grandparents. My grandad worked since he was 14 digging ditches in the rain and my nan was a nurse. The state pension is something I think they deserve, but I can also understand why people are pissed off and angry. Because we're sort of in a financial pickle at the moment, and in terms of ladders, it's been pulled up and set on fire and shredded - I do feel kind of bad even saying this though since I have a great job and can get a house lmao - so people are largely inclined to not really care? I think that there should be a great chain of growth and national interest where the older generation helps the younger and in turn are helped, but that chains been broken. Someone has to foot the bill. Right now it's The Youngs; because The Olds actually get off their arses and vote for things.

I think what a lot of us here are ignoring about SpaceX is the 'cool' factor above all.

While it's safer and more stable to just put everything in a boring mutual fund, there is something cool about having shares in SPACE EXPLORATION. The pull of being the guy with Apple or Microsoft stocks isn't really that interesting anymore as everyone and their mother can buy a few of them. I fully expect people to treat their SpaceX stocks like a framed picture on their wall more than anything, it doesn't matter if it makes money or not as long as they can tell their friends "I have invested in SPACE".

And yes, I'm kicking myself for not buying in to SpaceX even if it was to just sell today for 30% profit, but every day is a brand new day and having the weekend to mull things over might lead to a very interesting Monday for SpaceX.
