UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Belfast attack triggers major new illegal migration crackdown in Northern Ireland as arrests skyrocket (X). A lesson from the Ulstermen, rioting gets you what you want.
It’s not (just) the illegals that are the problem though. Most of the “refugee” dickheads are here in the midst of some legal bullshit to attempt to get gibs, aided by law firms who get gibs for representing the now-legal-because-due-process-has-to-happens. Seeing as it seems most of them get some sort of allowed-to-stay status, during and after all this, they’re not illegal. If they were illegal they wouldn’t be given places to stay and money, food and clothes. It’s a handy excuse for government to sound like they’re being brave and standing up for the country, when they’re not doing much more but committing (for now) to uphold the law as it already stands.

However, this is a good sign. As HM points out, it’s got the government doing something, which is a damn sight more than they were doing before. Even if it’s the smallest token gesture and will take months to years to actually turn into action, it’s shifting the Overton window that bit more.

I don’t suppose there’s any more news on the victim in all of this? That man had better have the very best of social care and housing when he gets out of hospital. God knows he’s been through hell.

I will say a lot of my academic time was based around communism and civil war, but the impact of the Belfast riots has pleased me greatly. The reason why I am pleased is that Glaswegians immediately copied that model of no phones, masked up, and systemically target places that only deal in that business practice.

It is good because those places are scarlet letters, and a business owner now has to seriously think about recreating them. It is a method that paralyses and subverts attention. I will take my victory lap and say I was correct on the first major victory, which was an IRA approach. It is a method that is guerrilla and yields a positive outcome because of how the UK and Ireland are structured.

The approach is not about killing people; it is about making it as difficult as possible. Infinite gibs are great and all, but when places of business are rejecting you, as well as the public spitting at you. Again, to my previous point, our police cannot cope with that style of approach. It is layered; you just cannot be a member, and it's fast. They would need to have multiple checkpoints in every single major city. The police neither have the manpower nor the money.

Frightening to think what it was intended to be.
At this rate, given the timing? It would have been the Daleks joining in with the Whites to try and purge the poor widdle ethnics from the Yookay, only for the Daleks to turn on the White British for being too evil for even the Daleks to stomach.

Lowe's "make it so uncomfortable for them they don't want to come" strikes again. Thr BBC is reporting that indians in the streets that were burnt in Belfast are now "leaving" NI. Were there more protests in Glasgow? Liverpool had another small demo at Liverpool Central in the afternoon.
There was an absolutely shocking video from either Tues night or Weds, maybe scotland, of a black guy filming in front of the masked mob with a caption mocking them and calling them racist (it was a reference to smth) and the lads threw him off his leccy bike. No one in the comments was sympathetic, even other blacks were telling him he should have gotten out of the way. Times are really changing and changing fast.
I typed up a huge spergy post comparing the current situation to historical civil conflicts and events yday but felt a bit silly becoz "nothing ever happens", so if you have any thoughts on the state of things I'd love to hear them.

I don’t suppose there’s any more news on the victim in all of this?
Allegedly stable in hospital but not out of the weeds. As regards to who he is, I really don't think the media *can* talk about him; residents are saying he's learning disabled and already hard of hearing, was a victim of other horrendous crimes and the state just shoved him into Belfast, and he was helping the Sudanese guy move into his house after he showed up. The outrage could power London for three weeks. That's a violation of so many "British things" and social taboos imho that it just proves that africans do not belong here. Alien culture.

A race more evil and full of hatred than the Daleks sounds like it could've actually been something Dr. Who might've done back before it was utter dogshit and RTD was given full creative gaywank over the series (Yet more evidence that higher-up meddling was actually good once). I can't believe out of RTD, Chinballs and Moffat that Moffat has stood the test of time as the best nu-who showrunner, what the fuck.

But yes, nowadays, Dr. Who would take that concept and make it about how whitey is actually the foulest and most evil race in the multiverse, and iirc I think during Dikta Nbugwho's time they already did that.

Pretty much what the Eccleston Doc did in that ep about a PM who had the audacity to protect Earth from aliens the Doctor wanted alive despite their open hostility.

The Defence Secretary John Healey has resigned, almost certainly because No. 10 has fucked up the Defence Review.

UPDATE: Guido reporting on X that No. 10 is briefing against Reeves over Healey's resignation.

An Iman's home has been 'fired bombed' in Bolton, in broad daylight. ITV Article (X) They seem to be chalking this up to the NI riots. Worth mentioning that a known 'Muslim activist' in Bham had her car set on fire the other week as well. These could be inter-ethnic conflicts (as seen with the cars being smashed up in Oldham).
CCTV shows moment masked suspect firebombs Imam's house in Bolton

CCTV has emerged showing the moment a masked suspect firebombed the home of an Imam in what is believed to be a "targeted" attack.

The footage captures a person, dressed in black and wearing a helmet and face covering, smashing the front window of the house in Bolton before hurling a lit substance inside, triggering a massive fireball.

Emergency services attended the scene and all occupants were evacuated with no injuries while the fire was extinguished.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed it has launched an arson investigation after the incident which happened shorty after 9pm on Wednesday, 10 June.

The home, on Eastgrove Avenue in the Sharples area of the town, is that of a local Imam who lives with his wife and children - all of whom were inside the house at the time of the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Sharples said: “Incidents like this are not acceptable in our community and no one should be made to feel threatened or intimidated.

"Thankfully, no one was injured, however, the consequences of this suspected arson attack could have been very different.

“We understand this incident may cause concern within the community; we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice. We believe this was a targeted attack, and there is no risk to the wider public."

He added: "Our enquiries to identify those responsible are ongoing, and we urge anyone with information that may assist our investigation to please come forward."

It comes as clashes between police and rioters continue in Northern Ireland over the Belfast knife attack.

The suspect, Hadi Alodi, a Sudanese national who was granted leave to remain in the UK, allegedly attacked Stephen Ogilvie with a weapon.

Stephen's family has reacted to the scenes with "disgust" and said the rioters actions are "not supported by our family, and peaceful protest is only ever the way forward."

They already have a bunch of tools to flag stuff on social media.
If you want to know what they are doing with it, you need to find out who has the contracts for this stuff and see who they are hiring.

I would imagine this will hand more money to US companies and/or large IT services companies that want to fleece the government.

I am going to wager it's going to be another large waste of money instead of actually fixing issues with existing outdated IT infrastructure.

Last episode of the soap opera I saw, there's no qualified British entity so Ellison and Palantir were competing to become Big Brother, and the decision had come down to a fight over which of the two is less associated with Trump/Vance.

Then everybody stopped talking about it.

In America we solved this dilemma by handing them both the job. Ellison is being given the media, and Palantir runs the gulag. They hunted the January 6th people, for example—and they were directing arrests of them up to the day of Trump's inauguration.

Then everybody stopped talking about it.

As always, "names and addresses."

They love diversity and are trying to avoid the US.

They're gonna give this to HCLtech or Cognizent or IBM or one of the other Jeet scammers that will take their money and give them nothing.
