A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

This is very clearly an air gun, probably a single-shot break-barrel air pistol. This is fearmongering shit that will be used to clamp down on air gun ownership, and we really don't want to go down that route when things are getting harder and harder for gun owners in the UK as it is. I've had a Section 1 FAC for nearly 20 years, and the erosion in what you can/can't do is getting fucking ridiculous. The recent lead ammunition ban on shotguns is one of the most retarded things I have seen in my life, especially when it will clearly have zero impact on the supposed "environmental" reasons for the ban as a result of air rifles being the most common type of gun for small game hunting and target shooting in the entire country. It's just another thing to try and make gun ownership that little bit harder and more expensive for people.

For any British men, but especially women reading this (women are great shots, in my experience) - Buy an air rifle to see if you like it, and if you do, consider getting your SGC and FAC - The hobby really needs more young blood or it will be legislated out of existence within the next 10 years or so. Shooting is awesome, and if you hang around with the younger people at the range or at the clay ground, you'll have a great time and meet some likeminded people. The shooting community are immensely chill as long as you keep away from the weird gatekeepy old men who hate anything that isn't a boomoid country gentleman wanker shotgun or olympic-grade air rifle that looks like something out of Cyberpunk 2077.

The belief I've heard more than a few people express is, we tried this. We tried not seeing race,we tried accepting the "good" ones, and we've been burned more than once for it. For every inch we give,they demand more and more. Being outright hostile towards non-white people is pattern recognition in action. It isn't safe to be friendly. They could make a false allegation of racism, or you could end up dead.

It's too risky and to put them off even trying to interact with us, outright hostility and keeping them at arms length is the only realistic solution.

It's harsh and potentially unfair but we've learned the hard way that they can attack you and TPTB will not care.

That token is now so common that they don't even need to make airs about ingratiating themselves into the native culture or politics, or acting as guests. That token is now so privileged by the institutions that if they were to bulldoze Stonehenge and put a vape shop there it would be praised as beautiful and what Britain is all about.

Whether it's a positive or negative, that's how things are now. I don't think Pakistanis would appreciate half their MPs and candidates in 1947 being white Brits who had just floated in off a plane that year.

Unfortunately for those who aren't British, the British have got the short end of the stick and will be seeking to enact oppressive changes in the other direction to ensure their long-term cultural survival. Fortunately for the non-British, they've got other countries to go to if they want to.
