UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Última edición por un moderador:
Police have won this, they've baited the protesters enough for a little scuffle and now everyone is just 'observing' bar a few yobs because they figure if they get too close they'll be nicked.

You can see the crowd slowly thinning out as people fuck off, normally you'd have a few coked up lads on the frontlines but they've all disappeared.

Once it's out of their system and the final crackheads fuck off the protest is over.

It's a very known tactic used against protests durring Communist regimes in Eastern Bloc.
It's a known tactic because the UK police have recently had legal action brought against them after at least five officers got into relationships with members of the groups they were observing, some of them siring children.

Unfortunately the average Labour voter when this will be pointed out will believe it completely right up to the point you suggest the police would do the same to right wing groups. At which stage they will scoff at the insane conspiracy theory.
You're a gay bricklayer? I think I've heard this joke before....
It's usually a plumber.

There definitely is a whole cottage industry of riot watchers/protest attenders which makes these events have a weird air about them.
Sploosh says the police are protecting the Digwa household; I thought he lived on Belmont where Henry died, but apparently the police are guarding the house. Where is the family?

No protestors outside the police station now after Tommy dispersed everyone.
I don't think the protestors have any clear agenda now, they just want to make their point. They were all seeking a different way to the house an hour back but then when the police started withdrawing they just followed them. Unless the police try some serious provocation (which they could) I don't think anything is going to kick off. People are just milling about and sporadic missiles mostly but not all light. People aren't really seeking violence here - it would be easy with these numbers to do some reverse crowd surf and be up and over the shield wall, or just mass and push it back. They're not even close to how dangerous they could be in terms of weapons. I mean I ask you: Does this look like the face of terror?

(Case in point, someone just found a big wheeled dumpster bin and rolled it at the police line. It was empty and probably weighed all of 10kg. They could have had a few people in it and others pushing and it would have broken the police line. Note, I'm not saying they should at all, I'm just pointing out that this crowd aren't looking for a fight.)

Anyway, I'm knackered - I expect Southport to still be there when I wake up, even if that poor person's fence isn't.

I wish the protesters would at least just duct tape the police to power poles and ensure they stay there overnight
That's a traditional celebration of marriage in the UK (not joking, a stag party traditionally ends with the groom taped to a pole in ladies' clothing).

thought he lived on Belmont where Henry died, but apparently the police are guarding the house. Where is the family?
They live on St Denys. Police are blocking their section of the street.

Edit - the flaming bin hit the police but is now extinguished, and a protester has a 2mm deep gash in his head.

Unfortunately I just think this situation is gonna die off soon and poor Henry will be forgotten. Soon enough another brown will kill the next white person. Rinse and repeat.
Every time this shit happens the response gets better/worse (pick your own answer there). Maybe he will be forgotten but the feeling won't be and the feeling won't go back down to zero.
