UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Última edición por un moderador:
I think every child or person who when a child, was molested by a relative or a non-Pakistani person, would be absolutely disgusted by these people trying to use their suffering as a blind to try and shut down addressing the problem of children who are being molested by Pakistani.

A whole bunch of them are all singing the same song: that the majority of sexual abuse is not from grooming gangs (they say), so try to suggest that recording information on grooming gangs is therefore going to (somehow) detract from helping those who were those molested by non-grooming gangs.

These people are not guided by actual care. It's all just bland statements about how important this is and then a soft dismissal of gathering the data.

EDIT: This guy (17:00mins mark) is trying to use an argument that "any action has to be based on evidence" as an argument against evidence collection. Wish we had some live notation indicating who the people speaking are and their party.

EDIT EDIT: Ian Duncan Smith spoken twice now. Short and valid points. Good for him.

It is not burdensome to collect this information
I suspect a lot of exists anyway, it’s just held somewhere where it can’t be seen by a horrified public.
As for ‘most is in the home.’
The biggest risk factor for most cancers is age. This means it’s fine to snack on ground up asbestos and dioxins and we shouldnt regulate either of them
If I was in a position of absolute power on this country, we’d be needing an awful lot of rope. All the actual rapists, and then every single person who has minimised and enabled and covered for it.

I had to stop watching the inquiry, not because of the horrible shit the rape gangs are up to, but because the slimy public sector workers make me want to fedpost.

It's so fucking insulting.

Raping kids is bad. We all know this. However it is fair to say, and proven by concrete evidence, that there is a clear problem with invading muslim men utilizing rape as a weapon against the most vulnerable native daughters in this country.

We all know it's happening and the problem gets worse and worse. Women are not free to go out, especially socially, without the risk of handsy rape apes trying to rape and assault them. We see it happening and we know it's them every time something is in the media about a woman being raped and the police refuse to discuss a physical description of the rapist.

This inquiry has been highjacked and it is the not rank and heinous flat out gaslighting I have seen in a long time

I'm not sure who this blonde lady is, but good for her too. I do recognise Sarah Champion - possibly the last good Labour MP.

Oh, I just spotted Farage looking bored in the front row. I guess he felt he had to be there so he couldn't be dinged for not being present. Probably make some bland comment at some point.

She's decent and I respect her a great deal. There's very few politicians I say that about these days, and no other labour ones.

The Sikh who murdered Henry Nowak got life minimum 21 years.

Rather we just executed him but that dream will have to wait for Rupert to be the PM.
Apparently the Sikh council or whatever the fuck they're called have very magnanimously announced that they're going to review their policy of insisting that all Sikh men walk around carrying murder weapons. How very generous of them.
How the fuck have we ended up in a situation where a subsection of the population can decide for themselves whether they're going to follow the law of the land or not?

So what I'm learning here is that most MPs do not understand Per Capita.

What I'm learning here is that several MPs don't understand that one of the problems is that these crimes were under-reported because of the ethnicity of the perpetrators.

And this nasty individual speaking now, making clear that he doesn't believe that one can attempt to fight child molestation because it's bad, but must be motivated by political motivation.

EDIT: Oh fuck, Nigel Farage just stood up... This will be interesting.

He's saying "you can just do things" in not so many words. Has the man put his ego aside long enough to side with Lowe on this?
He's taken the approach of trying to one-up Lowe, which is fine. Let him get into a nationalist-purity spiral if he wants. Though if you dissect what he said there's not much to it or practicality. Lowe's proposal is simple and to the point and easy to implement. If you convict someone of rape or child molestation, or if someone confesses to it, record their immigration status, ethnicity and, if can be determined, religion. That's something that can be implemented immediately and will have a large impact.

EDIT: Whoever this bald guy (17:00) talking about Elon Musk and White Supremacy is, I do not like him.

Islam isn't a race. It is not possible to be racist against a faith. One could argue it's sectarianism but given they've got a quarter of a million victims, at least, who cares. They deserve outright hostility at this point.

But anyway. This is going to be completely railroaded and won't go anywhere. There's some real bad faith actors in this, who are likely there at the behest of TPTB, with the intention of undermining all of this.

There's just no point in any expectations with him given that he only cares about optics for party support rather than actual action, like a true MP. You just have to look at what he hasn't done in comparison with Lowe to see what he's trying to do. All talk no bite as always.

Doubt it. He started campaigning on it this week - his angle is that Lowe did more harm than good by wading in and he did it the right way.

Lolled at Hannah Spencer getting told to sit down and shut up. She sounds like she genuinely cares about the victims which is weird- does she actually not realize her seat in parliament is because she got the grooming gang vote?

Who is this yank woman in white? Just tuned in, is she an MP?
Joy Morrissey, American(!) Tory MP now speaking on behalf of the Sikh community that the information must be recorded. Says Sikh girls being targeted by Muslims. Says "if it was a Catholic rape gang we'd be shouting from the roof tops". Seems on point. One of the few so far using the actual term "Pakistani".

EDIT: Farage, the face of boredom.

She's absolutely right. And I think there's nobody here who wouldn't criticise such a group, irrespective of their religion or background.

Thanks, didn't catch her name. The point about Catholic or Protestant rape gangs was absolutely true, now that Catholic priest grooming is out in the light. Mentioning that this just isn't a northern thing and calling out London got a few murmurs of agreements.
Jenrick talking now
EDIT: Jenrick proposing that once data is published, if it shows men of a certain country abuse girls more than others, that country ought to be struck from the visa list and people banned. Have Reform changed their stance on the "red list"? (Especially pakistan)
Calling for release of all emails and documents from nhs, police, local gov, etc. court transcripts also (i assume victim details censored)
