UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I am starting to wonder if the CPS are starting to get a little itchy about prosecuting people for 'hate speech' considering the current political climate. Ten years ago they'd have pushed it with zero feedback, but now there's that feeling that anything they try to throw at people in 2026 is going to result in the CPS getting an axe taken to it by a Reform government.

Lucy Connelly has singlehandedly done more damage to the CPS by pleading guilty than if she'd autisticly tried to use every court process to push a not guilty verdict.

The British police won't waste resources on arresting random kf users unless you make an explicit threat or make a post that is worthy of getting reported (which admittedly casts a very wide net but you would need someone to care enough about what you said to report it to the police) so don't make any actionable threats and always use a vpn and you'll probably be fine.

so even if someone does report you it's doubtful they'll even make the effort to come to your house anymore. You can read the law on what they deem to be "hate crime" incidents, its all public and easily available.
So no mention of removing these from people's records? For those who don't know the police don't have to tell you that you have one of these and they only show up under advanced CRB checks. You could go for years without knowing you have a non crime incident and then suddenly you're denied that promotion and called in for stern words from the HR lady.

I think you are largely correct, but also the budget and system itself are so bogged down that it cannot cope. Foreigners abroad seem to think the British Police and Political machine is infinite, but that is so far from the truth. It is propped up by a system that cannot pay for itself. The DWP is an example of this, I think, talking to the few former coppers I know, it is a similar case for the Police. It is supported by a force that is barely paid, hated, and aimless. I feel sorry for legitimate officers as they want to make a change. I had a mate who was training, and could not finish it because of how many people publicly called him scum for training to be a copper.

I think a lot of these decent officers don't want to arrest natives, especially for their opinions.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who genuinely want to do good work for their community and believe that joining the police is the best way of doing that but I have absolutely no sympathy with new recruits who have saw how the police have treated ordinary people for the crime of having an opinion about the largest wave of immigration to Britain ever. They still chose to join and enforce wrongthink laws. Fuck em.

In the end the poor girl had to go to the press.
This is sadly the only power the average man has. Bleed to the press to make a stink about it. PR is all they care about. It must look good, not be good.

None of our institutions can pay for themselves. But there's always another 0 you can add to the debt counter on Mr Computer.

This is stage one of "Create a problem".

Stage two will be "There are not enough police officers, this is why we need immigrants to do the work." Same as with doctors, nurses and anything else.

Stage three : Report you've been raped by a gang of foreigners. Police rape you because they think they should get some too.
Report you've been robbed of most your expensive jewelry. Police send his brother around the next day to get what's left.
Have your car stolen. Copper says he'll give it back for 300 quid.

Fuck off. If you can't deal with the hard times you don't deserve the reward of the good times. If the country gets fixed people who fled and want to return should be treated the same way the foreigners are. You go back to where you came from and stay there.
LOL ok Mr. Pink Triangle.

I've never heard of this before. How did you even begin to start eating cauliflower cheese with a roast?
Late, as I've been holidaying on the beautiful East Anglian coast... Poor signal.

Mrs. DMV does an excellent cauli cheese with a roast dinner. Especially good with beef. It finds a deserved place on the plate. Best if grilled for a crispy, toasted topping.
Part sauce, part veg, part protein. Everything.
Good eating.

Just had a lovely visit from my mum, but I couldn't help thinking "why are we like this?"
👵: It's too bloody hot, I'm sweatin' like a pig
🥝: Tea?
👵: Ooh, yes please
When we’re warmer internally the temp difference is less.

Or it’s an excuse to sell heroin to the Chinese. Both are good options.

So the alternative is what? Just forgive and forget?

You realise the majority of the officers who released rape gang victims back to their abusers, the ones who arrested their fathers for trying to remove them from that environment and the ones who arrest law abiding citizens for wrong think are overwhemingly the "decent" white ones.

Stop running cover for old bill, if asked they would arrest you today for your posts in this thread for "inciting racial or religious hatred" and genuinely feel like they've done a good thing.

I think you have read something into my post that wasn't there. I was simply drawing attention to how this fits into a wider pattern. Disincentivise native recruits and then follow it up by recruiting non-natively. Like how the UK has a program now in which Nigerian men can be granted citizenship for joining the British army. In the case of doctors, the UK government literally capped the number that are allowed to be trained in this country for years, leading to an artificial shortage and then imports doctors from India and other places and says "immigrants keep our NHS running".

Or look at things like the "Memorandum of Understanding" signed by Boris Johnson's government in 2022 with India's, This sets degrees (bachelors, masters and doctorates) from Indian universities as equivalent to those from British universities. In return we get... mutual recognition. For all the masses of British immigrants to India who can't find work because their degree from a British university isn't considered good enough there...

I'm not condoning and I'm certainly not calling for inaction. I'm saying that after the first punch, a second comes.
