A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I guess there is a point to be made that there are some who do come here and integrate and believe me I don't doubt that they exist but I think regardless none of them should be here and that they all need to go. Remigration is a new term but "Send 'em all back" isn't a new talking point for most. Even back in the 70s you had mainstream comedians making jokes about it in their stand up shows. It wasn't on TV but if you went to comedy clubs you got lots of kill/send em all back jokes from main stream entertainers. My old Mum (good lass, kids are arseholes though) used to tell me a story about going to see a TV comedian live. And he told a joke about immigration saying send them all back on the boat, It went something like "We need to send all these black bastards back on a boat. But they won't fit I hear you cry. They will if we cremate 'em!" and it would get huge applause. Most white people haven't changed their stance on immigration, the brain washing usually fails by the time you hit 25 if it hasn't already from exposure to them. It's very telling when someone says 'No, that tactic works, you can't use that. You have to be victims and never fight back." It's so very very Jewish. It's bad when you express you have a sense of justice and think the right punishment for something is to face the consequences of what you support instead of random other people who do not support it.

People who say "It takes a village to raise a child" have never raised children and have no family around them. I've noticed this is common with upper class women who have nannies and barely see their kids. They have to make arguments like this, and their kids repeat them because as a mother they have failed. They have failed to raise their kids themselves and instead of taking it on their shoulders they will make excuses for it. Either there is an absent mother or an absent father in people who say such things. And even worse, there is a complete lack of roots to them and where they've living. Growing up you had your family all living within a few minutes walk of each other. Your cousins, aunts, uncles, older siblings all lived close enough where you could pop round for a cup of tea uninvited and it was normal. Kids knocking on doors, women nattering at the shop. You didn't have this nebulous village. You had your family. Someone talking about "the village" and these blobs of foreigners all huddling together in a city seems so dysgenic and unBritish. Like some dirty ghetto where no one knows who they are and they have nothing to be proud of, no where they come from, nothing they can see made by their great grandpa who died before they were born but it a legend in their family. It's no wonder they're so sick they turn on their own people, they don't even have families. I never met the best of my grandparents, but stories of him still get told when we get together. Of my parents' aunts long gone and their legendary pork pies "someone" has the recipe for. Dairies kept during the war, Rare photographs and souvenirs from far off lands there were sent to when young, some never returning.

I can't imagine being such a rootless ghetto dweller that you think giving away your families, or someone else's families history to some foreigner is noble in any way. I think there's lots of decent people who move here today. The big problem on that front is the "lots of". The "lots of" puts barriers up to integration because we've got way too many coming at once, and also enables the scumbags to come here. My Dad worked shift work. Nowadays he probably could have taken time off work and got a bunch of benefits, but for better or for worse our family were too proud for that if it existed, so we were latchkeys. My Mum worked part time when she was well, I'm pretty sure all the mothers did. They cared about their kids, and they cared about the neighbours' kids. It was a village, back then, and I think it going away has more to do with globalist economics and mass migration that some non-whites being there. But call me non-white if you want, if you can't rationalise a white person having this experience.
