A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The Red Cross are now confirmed with aiding migrants coming into the country. Not just at the point of entry, but also in processing their asylum claims.

Yes but unironically.
They're tropical creatures that don't cope well with bursts of cool air, it simply doesn't mesh well with their overall physiology, you don't have to be an accredited biologist to notice sub-saharans don't have the arm-hair-goosebump effect, so no wonder it feels unpleasantly different to them.
Same deal with gingers and anaesthetics, DnD races are real.

He says who it was in the article: Lynsay Watson (power name: Alex Horwood), ex-police troon. He was sacked after, amongst other things, sending a torrent of abusive harassment and defamatory claims against a former colleague, who made the mistake of correctly identifying him as a man. Most of it was over twitter. He now obsessively tries to ruin anyone who uses twitter to criticise troonery (or worse, criticise him) on the childish principle of "if I can't use it, then they can't use it either!"

He's been pushing troonery since the 90s. I'm a little surprised he doesn't have a thread here.
 
Labour have restricted the right of illegal asylum seekers to bring family with them, so now it's more aligned with legal migration where you need to be earning a salary and have reasonable English skills before you can bring others over.

Both standards are set too low, and I'd rather illegals are told you cannot bring anyone over because you're being sent home, but I can't really shit on this policy because it's at least a step in the right direction that would have been unthinkable without Reform causing panic.

It does give a little bit of optimism. It's going to be a very long time till 2029, if Reform pressure can make Labour do some of the heavy lifting before then, all the better because at least they have representation in the house of lords to get laws through. If you told me earlier this year that Labour would be talking about rethinking ECHR interpretations to stop migrants I'd have said you were insane. Keep the hope bros, it's happening.

Ministers tried to sing 'Happy Birthday' to the Prime Minister during the very first cabinet meeting after the reshuffle and he asked them to stop.

The fact this was leaked to the media means we're about to start seeing a lot of rebellion. Buckle up, it's going to get wild the next six months.

I do a great west African accent. If it wasn't poop touching I'd love to give her a bell and put on my best displaced nog voice and ask for her assistance. Would be interesting to see what they would offer.
 
Birmingham bin workers have voted to keep their strike going until March 2026 at the very least.

The strike started on 11th March 2025, so residents will have struggled to have their rubbish collected for a whole year.

Here's what it looks like currently:

@Crunkle It's going to be fucking fantastic! The rats know the ship is sinking; the problem is, it's the end of the line for them. There are no speaking roles with free hotels after. Just a crowd of people that utterly despise your existence. Starmer will have to move abroad or become a hermit.

The fear has set in a bit more now because the natives are getting far more brazen in saying how they feel.

Aaron the Bastard (Aaron Bastiani) dunking on the Greens has also been hilarious, looks like the Asians who support their new Asian Deputy Green Leader are dunking on Novara (or No Viewers) Media.

They are now turning against each other - saw one tweet earlier saying 'done with the Lefty Liars, Trump isn't dying and I am sad they are getting my hopes up for nothing.'

As far as I know, Trump is still breathing.

Perhaps all the screaming and wailing has been for nought.
