UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Isn't it curious that they would ask a local Muslim community manager? Given that this happened at a Catholic school, can we assume that this was an altercation between a Catholic and Muslim boy, and that the BBC are pre-emptively running defence for Muslims?
Catholic schools for a long time now have been forced to take on none Christians. So a nig nog or pajeet doing this really wouldn't be shocking, less so that they had to pre-emptively consultee a local Muslim spokesman so we basically know who did it,

Can’t be speculating can we? Some innocent child has just been stabbed to death by a brown was was caught with a fucking knife the week before. In a just world the head would be facing a similar penalty to the
Stabber, and the parents would be sharpening the spikes on the school railings…

Sounds like a man consumed by grief after the death of his daughter, lashing out at the world.
Death By Cop is not an uncommon method of suicide in the US.
Maybe he wanted to be reunited with his daughter via Death By Mussies.
Poor chap. Life can be so cruel sometimes.
I wonder how the victim of his outburst of frustration hate crime felt?

Screenshot_20250204-084103_Chrome.jpg

It was the most emotional he had ever felt!
Greater than the birth of a child. Greater than the death of a dear one. Greater than making the vow of marriage and finally getting to see what's underneath the burkha. The most emotion he had ever felt...

The mob will go after him for heresy. The police and courts will go after him for hate. And the police are happy to assist the mob by giving out his name.

All to terrorise us into not doing hateful things like protesting against a certain religion.

Lucy Letby did not murder any children, according to 14 experts.

Serial killer Lucy Letby did not murder any babies, the chairman of a panel of international medical experts has claimed while outlining "significant new evidence".

Letby, now 35, is serving 15 whole life prison sentences after being convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others.

The 14-strong panel attributed some of the deaths at the Countess of Chester's neonatal unit between June 2015 and June 2016 to natural causes, and alleged others were due to "bad" medical care.

The study is now likely to form the heart of submissions to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) after Letby's lawyers applied for her case to be investigated as a potential miscarriage of justice.
In a lengthy and medically technical press conference, chair of the panel Dr Shoo Lee, a Canadian neonatal care expert, said there were alternative explanations for each of Letby's convictions for murder or attempted murder.

Dr Lee said he became involved in the case after learning that an academic paper he co-authored on air embolism, one of the methods Letby was said to have used to attack babies, formed part of the prosecution case in her trial.

He said the 14 experts, including medical professionals from Canada, the US, Japan, Germany, Sweden and the UK, looked at 17 cases at the heart of Letby's prosecution and had compiled an "impartial evidence-based report".

The report presented at the conference was a summary of the panel's findings, and the full report would be submitted to Letby's legal team Dr Lee said.
He added: "We did not find any murders. In all cases, death or injury were due to natural causes or just bad medical care."

"Lucy was charged with seven murders and seven attempted murders", he said.

"In our opinion, the medical opinion, the medical evidence doesn't support murder in any of these babies.

"Our full report will go to Lucy's barrister later this month, and then it'll be up to him and the courts to decide what next to do."

In Letby's trial the prosecution referred to the 1989 paper by Dr Lee that looked at cases of air embolus, referring to injuries caused when air is injected into a baby's arteries or veins after staff at the Countess of Chester reported skin discoloration on some of the babies.

In the cases Dr Lee analysed in his paper, those injuries had happened accidentally.

The expert in the article, Dr Shoo Lee, wrote a book on air embolisms, the same book the prosecution referred to as proof that Letby murdered the kids. The same expert, Dr Lee, says they are wrong and their shits all gay and retarded.

As I've say from day one, Letby is a scape goat for crap NHS care.

Muslims send their kids to Catholic schools because those schools are more likely to still be all girl or all boy, so the kids are seperate and not interacting with the opposite sex like they would be in a normal school. Found out from a Muslim co-worker talking about schools when the topic of school days came up once.

@Bog-standard Poster : a lot of people simply don't realise how terrifying the NHS is to work for. They would rather throw someone under the bus or completely destroy the mental health of a whistleblower trying to raise legitimate concerns than face up to the slew of issues they have.

If the NHS is failing (spoiler: it is) then the biggest burden for this is the overwhelming resistance to change and multi-generational ineptitude of the staff, at all levels.

Lots of smug pricks in the UK like to say "oooohhh but in the USA they charge you money for healthcare!!". Well yea, but we pay for the NHS via general taxation so we pay for it.

At least in the USA you get dignity and decency. It is simply a disgrace that, for example, you will be separated by nothing more than a curtain from an old person sitting on a commode, and that you can be on a mixed age ward with demented old folk.

The notion of "presenting patients" where your intimate medical history is discussed in full hearing of the ward is also humiliating, and if you want to see Doctors in hospitals lose their shit try telling them you're not okay with this and you want your medical history kept private. They simply will not see why or how it is wrong.

This resistance to change is ingrained at all levels and the only way for change to come is for their hands to be forced.

Not disagreeing that the system is toppling but if I had to pay thousands of grand vs a stranger behind the curtain hearing about my prolapsing vagina uhhh I'd still take the latter.

The delay in treatment times is the biggest issue imo. May as well write up your will when you receive a cancer diagnosis.

Ah yes, Lucy "I'm evil, I did this" Letby, the great martyr of our time.
The amount of simping that's still going on for her shows how she was able to get away with it for so long.
Evidence that she's guilty: One diary entry.

Evidence that she's not guilty - A botched trial, 14 international experts testimony - including a guy who wrote the book that the prosecution relied upon to get a conviction, a whole host of NHS staff saying it's a shambles and a well respected MP calling it worst miscarriage of justice of our time.

I don't give a shit about Lucy letby, I do care about sham trials allowing NHS managers get away with murder due to their incompetence.

The NHS is truly fucked there are a couple of larger issues that affect its quality and led to me leaving ultimately.

The NMC is one of the biggest issues with the Letby case and the current environment. They run nurses like tyrants and dictate everything: pay, education, and rules. Since the 80s, they were co-opted by socialists and switched the education model from a biomedical approach to biosocial and, by doing so, changed the training and model of nursing completely. Nurses are constantly worrying about losing their PIN by the most stupid standards and controlling such things as social media posts outside of work and even how you talk.

Employment and Dropouts with nurses and doctors are high to the point university cohorts are being told they will not be given jobs after graduating, and this is the same for doctors and GPs. Your placement hours do not count as experience, so a lot just leave, and rightly, too. Students are being used as slave labor because they import too many foreign nurses from Africa.

The problem is now doctors are leaving with the nurses, and that creates an unfixable mess. I quit nursing and I will retrain in the States because the education is better there simply, but also you are paid accordingly.

I read the defense stuff, and it checks out in terms of what I have experienced, but I do not give a shit about her, either. In training and universities, though, Letby is a "banned" word and you will be reprimanded because to side that she was innocent is to say the NHS is a dying fish on the beach gasping for air.

Put it this way, to get my teeth fixed when I was visiting my other half, I paid for dental there, and though it was about £750 it was worth it. I said I wanted to be knocked out and have my wisdom teeth pulled along with some fixing, and it was done the same day.

ucy Letby did not murder any children, according to 14 experts.
I bloody love you. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
: a lot of people simply don't realise how terrifying the NHS is to work for.
Or the weird omertà the staff operate under. I’ve sperged enough about the NHS but I will repeat I have seen the NHS absolutely destroy the lives of some good people who have worked it.

Oh absolutely and what is worse, it is encouraged by nurses to grass on other nurses to rank up and get out of band 5. I hated it because it was a Stazi whilst trying to help people. I will say though the international nurses I worked with stayed out of it, and it was either fags or white women that did so.

I do care about sham trials allowing NHS managers get away with murder due to their incompetence.
The problem with this idea is that it doesn't fit the facts beforehand.

It was obvious that the Trust really wanted the whole thing just to go away - the NHS hates negative publicity. And when the doctors accused Letby of the murders, the Trust defended her and forced them to apologize to her. There's zero evidence of them throwing her to the wolves, they had to be forced to act.
If they were really covering their incompetence, I would have had expected them to go the whole "statistical anomaly" route. Not forcing an innocent member of staff to be prosecuted, resulting in experts poring over their data and bringing everything to light.

Reminder too that the defence admitted that the babies had been murdered, but claimed it must have been someone else.

The trust of managers of the ward or whomever has the rank of big boss, could have and should have done more before dozens of kids died.

That's why the trust wanted it to go away, but it kept happening because they didn't deal with it.
And when the doctors accused Letby of the murders, the Trust defended her and forced them to apologize to her. There's zero evidence of them throwing her to the wolves, they had to be forced to act.
If she was responsible, through maliciousness or incompetence, for the deaths of those kids, why wasn't a deeper investigation carried out, rather than them fluffing up their scape goat?

By the time the data - if ever, comes to light, those managers have had time to either cover their tracks, move on, or say "our bad, it won't happen again".
Stafford hospital (iirc) had their maternity ward shut down because of a couple of dead kids. They had the watchdog crawl all over the hospital and find failings left, right and centre.

The trust of managers of the ward or whomever has the rank of big boss, could have and should have done more before dozens of kids died.
I think that all of us, whatever you think what happened, would agree with that.

As I've say from day one, Letby is a scape goat for crap NHS care.
My point is that the scapegoat argument doesn't hold water. If the Trust invented a story about Letby being a murderer, in order to prevent them looking incompetent... they'd still look incompetent, because harbouring a murderer isn't any better.

"I killed them on purpose" is another phrase from Letby's diary. What could she have meant by such a cryptic remark?
