A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Where do they think electric comes from, magic rainbows? Is gas, dudes. Gas is by far the biggest generator of electricity in the U.K.. The power only stays on if you have gas to drive power stations. The wind doesn’t always blow, the sun doesn’t always shine, and nuclear and pumped water storage are too slow to deal with fluctuations in the power grid.

Everything needs to be kept at 50 Hz. That wavers literally by the second, depending on demand and supply. You need an exceptionally fast system to supply extra power when needed, and less power when there’s an excess. You wander over or under that 50Hz just slightly too much and all your electrics start shutting down. You lose one or two power stations or transmission lines, suddenly you’re overloading others and they’re failing too. You can have a cascade in less than a minute than can black out half of the country (or more). Look at the shitshow with solar in Spain a year or so back.

Green energy is a folly. It’s impossible. You cannot build enough battery storage to cover even a couple of minutes of sagging supply. Unless you’re happy to be entirely detached from the grid an only use your own generation, a stable electricity supply is fundamental for the running of our country. Batteries, solar panels and wind farms all use rare earth minerals and create tonnes of waste when they eventually age out, in 20 years and usually way less. They’re dangerous when damaged, and lethal to firefighters who charge into them unknowingly. They are far from reliable and utterly useless for anything other than general additions to the base power supply. You cannot have an electricity grid without gas-fired power stations.

And there was fuck all wrong with coal or North Sea oil. There’s plenty of technology to deal with smoke filtration, and any waste byproducts are far less dangerous and long-lasting than nuclear or the detritus of broken batteries and solar panels.

These fuckers just want us all living in some Bible tale kumbaya picture where we all hold hands round a campfire and only eat cabbage. As long as they stay in control of the country, of course.

Either of these two options would be massive wins for Labour, more jobs for the working class, prosperity for working class neighbourhoods, less reliance on foreign imports.

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious stabbing incident in north Belfast.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident in the Kinnaird Avenue area of the city at around 10:30pm.

Video posted to social media appears to show a male stabbing another man several times in the head with a knife.

I was going to make some irony post about how the commies in the RIRA feel about immigrants but I actually don't know what their policy even is. Also I feel like it's just in bad taste seeing as how awful this attack is.

I think you're projecting a lot there. I'd suggest it's more like 45% are against immigration, 33% are in favour or not concerned or brown and the remainder will vote for the one with the biggest tits / who has the ball / who has the best handbag.

I'm from an area that was pro-immigration, but the window has shifted, people are noticing, it's not for it any more. They aren't necessarily "launch illegals into the Sun" yet, but it's only a couple of big events away. You won't be deemed racist for questioning its value now. After years of indoctrination it will take time for the susceptible to change course. The problem is time is of the essence. Once some things are lost, they are gone forever.

What am I projecting? What I wrote is just my analysis of statistics and voting history. But after thinking about it more, I revise my initial number, from 75% to about 85, maybe 90%.

The window has shifted a bit, I agree. People are not okay with the most extreme migration methods, like housing hundreds of foreign, jobless young men in a hotel on their street. But that's as far as it goes. At most, people may confess after a pint or two that they don't want foreigners who don't speak english in the country. That leaves the door open for 2 billion english speakers, give or take.

Couple of big events away? What kind of events would those be? I can't imagine anything worse than what already took place.
