All shithole countries (i. e. not America with a few extremely rare exceptions) are using the dollar to trade between one another, because it is backed by the coillective wealth and power of the largest and most badass nation in the world, fuck yeah, Coca-Cola, sometimes war. This is one of the reasons why the US has not yet collapsed despite printing money at the rate that would make Andrew Dobson hard in his pants: the vast amounts of its currency are sitting in the accounts of other countries because what the fuck would Russia do with a bunch of pesos or Mexico with a pile of rubles.

Until the Ukrainian kerfuffle happened and the US tried to wield the dollar as a club to beat Russia with, cut it off from SWIFT and impound its foreign assets.

This made the BRICS countries extremely concerned the same shit can happen to them if they do something to displease the Mighty Eagle, so they started to look for alternatives. Russia is dumping its dollar reserves like there is no tomorrow and has already shifted about 40% of its foreign trade to use the yuan, which is one of the reasons why the American prices are steadily continuing to climb: the green chickens with Benjamin Franklin on them are slowly coming home to roost and the US does not have the space to accomodate them all.

Mexico does not have to dump the dollar altogether, it can just start diversifying its foreign trade options assuming there is any trade between Mexico and the BRICS countries to begin with. I think they are buying a lot of Russian steel and fertilizer, but don't quote me on that.

Weaning itself from the dollar is hard, but where there is a will, there is a way. The process is slow but it is accelerating.
