Cars can be restored to near-perfect condition. At one of my jobs, nearby there was a business that was solely dedicated to restoring scuffed-up and damaged wheels and rims. Whether you want to sink that much into a car when buying a newer, better one would be cheaper is a matter of your wallet, and we all know John's lack of good financial sense.
