Sorry if I'm late, but it's the first time I've seen her name mentioned irl: I saw the cover of Inc. magazine yesterday in the store that said in big letters "Who is trying to kill Brianna Wu" and only barely managed not to have an aneurysm. No, I did not attempt to read the article because then I would have probably started shouting about how stupid it was and gotten kicked out.

It was not Gamergate that was laughing at me. IT WAS GOD!

Oh, don't worry, I got a picture when I went to the grocery store earlier.

I love the juxtaposition of Matt's face. Kind of says everything.

As an aside: I started to laugh when I saw this cover. The people in checkout gave me some weird looks, and all I said was "the only person trying to kill Brianna is Brianna".

Oh wow that cover has to be a prank. Matt Maloney just has a 'are you seriously asking that fucking question?' face.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but in this instance you were incorrect. Maria Enderton is the one who created the combat system, and she was let go in February of 2015 after her work "revamping" the Steam port was finished. R60 is done, but Wu is spending all this time either making Frank "fix" the models or hoping all the negative attention dies down so she can release the already compiled binary to little fanfare. Or both. Who really knows with her?

Her team now consists of:
Brianna Wu (Grand Leader of everything and Project Manager)
Amanda Warner ("lead animator" and Project Manager)
Frank Wu (space ship modeler)

That's the whole team. That's everyone. Two project managers, one of whom is known for designing animated logos for companies, and a sci/fi artist with minimal modeling skills.

Corrected accordingly! Thank you. AIDS awareness, cat.

Of course, considering it's Wu this student unknowingly dodged a bullet, I think connecting with her would do a lot more harm than good.
See: Reuben.

I bet Wu was in DC to help make 9/11 happen. #jacewasright
Nah he could not have been trusted with such critical missions. Most likely he was there to order toilet paper.

Actual serious question about this guy:

Do we know for sure what alias he was going by when he was in DC?

I know a guy who knows a guy who's in the rumor mills up there. If John Flynt or whoever did something spectacularly stupid FOAF might have heard about The Crazy Guy Who Showed Up In Drag When Dubya Visited or something, but I want to doublecheck first since I'm already going to annoy him with this stupid personal question.

She signed a legal document as "John W. Flynt" with a valid DC address. She had to have been using that name if she was employed in DC at the time. Someone asked around using their connections and couldn't turn up anything suggesting she worked with the government in any capacity. I have a few connections that I can ask as well that might know something.

I'm suddenly reminded of that episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9 where the kids are on a fetch quest for a baseball card that involves them talking to most of the major characters, good, bad or otherwise, that's mistaken for the lynchpin in a major conspiracy.

I've talked with a lot of DNC guys I've worked with over my time in politics. Not high-level people, but people with track-records and guys who do the grunt work - canvassing, phonebanking, GOTV efforts, awareness campaigns, that kind of thing. Literally almost everyone who gets involved with politics, regardless of income, will wind up directly being involved with politics at first in this fashion. Most of 'em are volunteers.

That said, my admittedly limited contacts turned up fucking nothing, and I had the one contact I have whose actually pretty politically-connected look into it. If Brianna Wu, during her time as John Flynt was at any point politically-involved, it either wasn't as part of a DNC effort or was something so small or fringe that it didn't even get attention from the powers that be, analogous to the infamous chair incident I mentioned in the Gamergate thread.

I'ma take a shot in the dark here and suggest it was a chair incident analogue. You heard it here first.

Oh. If that's the case I won't bother. FOAF follows congress-grade stuff more. If he didn't make it on the radar that much then FOAF won't have heard of anything either.

Wouldn't it have been RNC at that point anyway? She was still a dyed-in-the-wool GW Bush conservative at that point.
It's funny, they say "A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged" but it was the other way around in this case.

I have never heard of that.

From the Gamergate Thread, and initially related to my discussion of the Northport Arts Coalition (and my mom's encounter with Proto-SJWs) in this very thread:

For my money though, the biggest ownage that NAC recieved didn't come from mom, though - it came from the Secret Service. See, at the time, Hillary Rodham Clinton was campaigning for Senate, and had a massive event at Crab Meadow Beach, and me, my brother, and my mother got to go. I spent most of the afternoon hanging out with the off-duty Secret Service agents and listening to their tales of hilarity and woe about the myriad of hilarious shit they had seen, whilst my mom and brother were SUPER HYPE for Hillary's Q-and-A session. It was pretty awesome, and they served barbeque. It was a down-to-earth event and a good time was largely had by all.

Anyway, during this, the very same NAC chair that had screamed at me previously for DARING TO USE A PIANO WITHOUT ASKING HOW DARE YOU JAIMAS showed up, with some big, ego-pumping celebratory gift from the Northport Arts Coalition for Hillary. It was a gaudy, fugly, ridiculous-looking chair festooned with American flags and such - an absolute fucking eyesore.

Its sole purpose was to go "LOOK AT ME! I'M AN INDICTOR OF HOW IMPORTANT NAC IS!" Well, sadly, Hillary didn't agree with it being the best gift ever: after thanking said NAC member for it, it was left on the beach where it was given, only for Secret Service agents to move it behind a piece of curtain wall near the dumpster, where it was left for the entire event, and then was abandoned in said dumpster when Hillary's entourage left. The delivering NAC member was quite cross.

Lulz were had.

I was approaching another angle. There's plenty of righties looking for Wu's presence with similar results (I.E. no mention). Hence my theorizing that this is Chair Incident tier.

Her story has more holes than a piece of acoustic ceiling tile.

She doesn't understand that linkedin isn't used like twitter. Why did she even post that? Holy shit she supposedly owns a game company too so she can go there and find talent and see them discussing technical issues with other talent before contacting them. Or she could empower some other women.
Wu's social network and connections are only for wu's benefit as was made obvious other times that people have came to her for help. It actually says something about Wu that she doesn't even consider the benefit of staying connected with someone you're not actively exploiting.

Or get employees outside of redundant "project managers" that don't really have anything to manage?

Also this thread's turning out to be a neat source of info over games that do have depth. More things to look into, it'd be nice to play an rpg with actual roleplaying...

I think all the remaining employees are unpaid otherwise they'd be fired. By now everyone must understand that this was a failure unless they're deluding themselves somehow that steam will open up new doors and that they'll make their money back from a steady trickle from now until 2050 when frank retires. I've noticed she's pushing her patron hard and also she seems to be getting a lot of speaking engagements that she's eager to generate buzz about. Anyone who knows care to guess how much she might make off the Brianna Live: The Wurld Tour?
