So the question is at what point did they determine the subject of "trans issues in gaming" for a panel? Because she booked the gig almost a year ago, and back in January she was not grasping for relevance the way she is now.

Wu cannot plan for the long-term for shit. IF she decides to come out today, I'd be shocked if it wasn't a last minute decision.
 
Welp, panel's over and if twitter is anything to go by nobody gave a shit.

Either her earth shattering opening statement was more self aggrandizement bigging up R60, or she bottled it at the last moment.
 
Dude she's totally coming out. All of her detractors constantly talk about her trans status and even poke fun at it. All of her long term supporters already know she's trans. She has to impress new people nonstop to replace the ones that she alienates. She'll have fresh slideshow material for the rest of her career, also look at how much katelin jenner is protected by her trans status. Despite being a mediocre spokesperson she's still celebrated.

Wu has no other choice at this point and as far as feminist speakers go wu is a little fish in a big pond. Gaming sexism despite all the recent bullshit is the bottom of the barrel and people are getting super tired of it. I think the nail in the coffin was the UN thing making fools of the biggest names and then japanese game companies saying the whole thing was too confusing for them to bother to figure out.

Trans people are getting mainstream acceptance and there are plenty of empty seats to go around especially to someone who managed minor fame in the big leagues of professional feminism. Also trans acitivism is utterly saturated with SJWs so embarassing behavior like wu's worst gets swept under the rug.

Last but not least, trans people do get shit on almost always still and especially online so she has something worthwhile to talk about and it's an appropriate place for wu to be an activist compared to pretending to have gotten oppressed by nerd culture for being a woman since she was a little girl. I still can't stand wu as a person though and I'm sure she'll remain toxic to her causes.

That, and I noticed Flynt always jumps at the chance to use the mansplaining card, no matter how much of a massive asshole it makes him look like.

Then again, I'm fairly certain that as a person who outed and mocked a transperson would know a thing or two about transphobia. Internalized or no.

Because it isn't about getting accepted as trans, it's about Brianna feeling insecure about her transition and doubling down on anything feminine. It's all about Wu's ego. If Wu came out as trans and stopped trying to speak for women who have built careers in the industry long before Wu transitioned then she could actually get more respect. The problem is she'd still be talking about her experience in the tech industry when she really has barely any. She'd still be lying, just not as much.

Wu has a habit of tweeting questions she could google and get an answer for within the first five results. If a man shows actual interest in what she's built her career around? "Not my job to educate you. Google it". That's the response of someone who doesn't give a fuck about a cause beyond what it can do for them. Hell, it would be more polite to just not respond if explaining her views is that exhausting.
