You should have learned how to do combinatorics back when you became an engineer or at least at some point you'd have to figure it out writing a bigass game (i think). As soon she 111199 out of 4 bytes worth of number space she should have known she fucked up. But beyond that she should have recognized there had to be characters that don't work in a tweet and just googled for it... even with the excluded chunks of space google reveals it's way higher than 111199.

For simplicity's sake, there are basically two things that need to be known - the number of possible characters and the range of lengths of strings of those characters.

If x = number of possible characters and tweets can range in length from 1 to 140 characters, the formula is Σx^n, with n=1 to 140. It's not just x^140.

As for x itself, of course you're way off with that, too. Only about 10% of the maximum number of code points have been allocated, and the number allocated changes over time. You don't even get the terminology right in your tweets, nor the allocated number correct.

And since, unlike your tweets, most people try to compose coherent thoughts in specific human languages, the real-world number of practical combinations is orders of magnitude smaller than the theoretical maximum.

This has nothing to do with "development and engineering". It's just math.

Also, the number of possible tweets may be somewhat lower for Wu, as one would have to subtract out tweets that inadvertently say the truth, give useful information, or otherwise are something that isn't a complete waste of space, as it is literally impossible Wu will ever make such a tweet.
