I kinda-sorta see what Brianna is getting at but I think she's an idiot and said it wrong. You should absolutely go to university. Even if you do a degree that is unrelated to your preferred career, it's important to show an employer that you can learn and succeed in your chosen field. That, in my opinion, is the purpose of a degree. Also, uni is a really good place to make contacts who can help you further down the line. I hate to say it, but knowing people helps.
Now, with video games, you can enter the industry via a portfolio. If you can slap together a cool little game while studying history or journalism or whatever, then opportunities will open up to you. It's not just about having the right qualifications, its about standing out and proving you are an asset to be invested in. I think this is what Brianna is getting at. She's saying that if you make a startup and it succeeds, then you're probably going to move on to better things. Brianna seems to have forgotten that no everyone has a cash cow to milk for all it's worth and can jump ship with the rest of the rats when things go bad.

I knew a guy who made a really dumb but funny video for YouTube and got job offers from American animation studios. The guy was working as a mechanic but he made a silly video and that opened doors.
It's all well and good having a fancy bit of paper, but if you can prove yourself in the real world you are leagues above any graduate.
Go to college, kids. It'll do you good. Just don't do Gender or Fat Studies, FFS.
