Why is Patreon a badge of honor to them? Doesn't it just show that you're a failure in your field and require e-welfare to get by?

I've always regarded Patreon as being sort of like an apprenticeship. It's something you do when you're new and haven't established yourself enough (or lack the skills) to make it on your own. Doing it constantly for your entire career is like being that kid who never left his first job.

I get it as a nice way to contribute to someone who is doing something that doesn't generate money. Maybe a developer who works on an open source application that people like. Or someone who maintains a website for people.
But once you're touring the country claiming to be a successful video game developer, asking for handouts seems pathetic and even kind of fucked up when so many other people in this world could use that money. Why not donate the money to a Women's Shelter or something instead of to Blue Apron?
