Good Gawd. The content has dried up, hasn't it? Today's just the countdown. 14 hours to go.
What's the Isometric schedule? This episode is dated today https://www.relay.fm/isometric/95 and they claim they "broadcast live" but I don't think they really mean that. Everything else suggests they pre-record and release on Monday mornings.
Every new episode of Isometric is all new levels of cringe and try-hard. This one starts with Wu making an extended "joke" for about the first 10 minutes, concerning the oh-so-hilarious "Church of Briannatology" and how the other Isometric hosts will be her disciples, with various thetan levels, as if this is all some very witty satire of Scientology, which of course, since this is Wu we're talking about, it's anything but.
I'm realizing this is an ongoing theme for Isometric, this idea of Brianna's ego, or cultish behavior, or messianic delusions....as a joke. But it's not funny, because it's not presented with any wit and verve, and also because.....well, it's just a bit too close to the absolute stone-cold truth to be funny.
I wonder why Brianna thinks others would find this funny. If she sees herself as a celebrity, with adoring fans, (excuse me, "fandas" *retch*) does she imagine that a star goofing on about their tyrannical presence is funny? Or is this the true Johnny Flynt's Axl Rose-level ego filtered through Brianna's warped idea of what it means to be a woman?
It's interesting; do you remember in Kill Bill 2, Bill goes on with his metaphor about how Clark Kent is Superman's commentary on the human race, and as such is obviously quite critical, suggesting that he sees the human race as weak, cowardly, etc.? By the same token, Brianna Wu is how John Flynt sees women. This stylized, ultra-touchy little tin-pot dictator, with no work ethic, who constantly mocks their significant other, is how John Flynt thinks the ideal woman should be and act.
Doesn't that really tell you everything to need to know about Brianna Wu? The horror that is Wu.....all the most unpleasant and off-putting parts of her personality, those are the idealized concepts of ultimate, fantasized womanhood to Wu.
I don't know about you lot, but if Brianna Wu's personality is how you see women, I think you're a bigger misogynist than all the goobergrapers put together.
Incidentally, Frank screams his head off at about 6 minutes and 15 seconds in for no discernible reason, and is quickly patronized (of course) by Wu.
Who listens to this show other than the occasional masochistic kiwi? Are there actual, non-ironic Isometric fans? It's all in-jokes and glad-handing. Literally. It's like being a fly-on-the-wall for a group of dorky, wannabe tech-hipster friends having a pow-wow: if you're not part of this group....what's the point? None of these people are particularly verbal, have particularly unique or well-defended opinions, or discuss interesting issues in any way. Half of the games discussed have been played by Wu only, though the podcast is ostensibly about games, so.....? I mean, I know it's an airbrushed handjob for Wu, but wasn't this around before Gamergate? Why? It' s almost self-consciously to pad Wu's resume, such as it is.
EDIT: Wu's dogs barking like crazy at 7 minutes in. Such a professional podcast.
EDIT 2: I found a new Wu tick: The ultra-fake "HA!" laugh. Literally, she fake-guffaws "HA!" followed by no laughter.
