Like they were screaming to the parents faces “why are you hiding your son” when they likely knew he was already dead. I mean, you can’t ever know anything for sure. That being said, if suppose my one good friend killed his fiancé, I know he would kill himself out of guilt/honor. This other guy I know would 100% say “let them arrest me and let me try to prove I didn’t do it.” I have to imagine his parents were inclined to know he was in the first category of people rather than the later.

As soon as it was dry enough to get into the reserve they coincidentally led police right to where the corpse was. Don't have to be all that cynical to believe they did.

They hid the fact that they knew he was almost certainly armed from the public. They hid a lot of things. A charitable explanation would be that they didn't want to turn the tinderbox into a firefight because the wrong kind of people were starting to get angry.

The last couple decades kind of proves the charitable explanation is never the correct one, though.

I don't think there's anything more to find out. Even if there were, both of them are dead and they're the only ones who knew what really happened. I think it's pretty obvious at this point, though.

Pretty much, I'd imagine if he didn't do it and she Gone Girl'd herself like I've seen some people suggesting online he'd at least want to leave a note or something with his side of the story before he an hero'd himself. Seems like the dude didn't wanna go to prison and I guess it works out for everybody except for the girl's family.

For all we know he did. Remember there’s still the notebook that was all but destroyed due to rising water levels. If it’s possible to decipher that, I’m sure it would make a lot of things clear.
