He points out that Caleb Cain, the "Youtube indoctrinated me into the alt-right!" guy was indoctrinated -- by the Youtube algo blocking conservative channels from suggested views and sending him to Breadtube. But lefty journalists don't (can't) see that as a problem, so instead the journalist took it as him being saved from the alt-right.

Why would these journos be concerned by a guy fitting their narrative perfectly? They desperately want YouTube to kick people who are competing them to the curb and will gladly support the narrative by claiming it's all done by the algorithm that recommends the videos rather than there being an actual demand for ideologies other than New York pseudo-socialism.
 
Kyle Kulinski made a video about Faraday Speaks in which he seems to have completely fallen for his story. Though it appears as if he's done no background research on it, since he only talks about the David Pakman interview and seems to believe that it's policy and news focused youtubers like him and Dave that Caleb is crediting for his deradicalization, rather than Contrapoints. Bizarrely, Kyle has a positive take on the situation, saying that the article about Caleb blames Youtube, but that his story is proof that Youtube can also do good. Here he seems to be blissfully unaware or ignoring that Caleb himself is the one blaming the Youtube algorithm and helping MSM sell that angle, and was yelled at by Jimmy Dore for just this.

It's a shame, because I actually have some amount of respect for Kyle even if he comes off as an arrogant douche much of the time. I'm legitimately surprised to see him signal boosting this guy.

One of the Anons on the image boards posted some quite convincing evidence that Oliver Thorn/PhilosophyTube very likely doesn't actually bother to read the works he cites in his videos:

I already suspected that Oliver probably doesn't actually read the authors he brings up in his videos and is just name-checking some big name authors to make it seem like he has read up on the topic he's discussing. A while back on one of Oliver's Livestreams, someone in the chat told Oliver that they were going to read the book Gender Trouble, which is pomo post-feminist Judith Butler's famous incomprehensible wordsalad book, but Oliver mixed up the title with Gender Hurts by Australian militant feminist and political lesbian Sheila Jeffreys, whom Oliver had just dismissed in his Transphobia video without ever addressing the actual contents of her book. Oliver responded all surprised that one of his fans would dare read Gender Trouble and said: "Isn't that Sheila Jeffreys' book?". His followers then tried to correct Oliver in the chat that his fan was referring to Butler's book and not Jeffreys, but Oliver pretended not to notice them correcting him. If Oliver had actually read Gender Hurts, would he have ever mistaken that book for Bulter's book? I highly doubt it as the two books are completely different in tone and content. The fact that Oliver can't distinguish Gender Trouble from Gender Hurts is a very strong indication for me that he has probably read neither.
 
It's hilarious that these dumbasses think their guys have anything close to the reach that more libertarian/conservative commentators have.

I believe Chapo Trap House is to blame for that term gaining traction, but I also think it's the in-vogue insult because the term is a catchall for the dissident right. Edgelord, dudebro, neckbeard, incel or fedora don't quite stick whereas chud does.
