How the fuck can they expect respect from kids when they splurge so much money on themselves and kick kids out as soon as they turn 18. Asians respect elders cause for the most part, our families are tight as fuck, with uncles and aunts grandmas and grandpas being surrogate parents, cousins being as close as siblings. Ameriboomers want to have their cake and eat it too, spend too much money and live like a hyperconsumerist 20 year old while also being treated like an old patriarch or matriarch, deserving of reverence.

Dude, I think this is why they're so addicted to the news. They're just as bad as A-Logs who spend all their time obsessing over their hatred for a lolcow because it distracts from their own failures and faults, except it's an entire generation that they're partly responsible for.

The term I personally use is "eternal teenager". Boomers seem to fall for hating on their own Emmanuel Goldsteins because the TV or Hollywood said so. Similarly, as an example you see incredibly similar strains of behavior in Millennial "progressive" types who are closing in on forty years old who only exist to harass Christians. This is what so many younger people have dealt with their whole lives when they realize you might be (or are) one of their ideological targets, just taunting you with evil acting like piranhas smelling blood in the water.

I'm new to this thread. It's astounding to me that there's only 96 pages since 2016. These boomers have done a number on us, guys. There should really be more here. I love hearing about others experiences with boomers. More specifically parental relationships. I'm a Gen-X product of possibly some of the boomerest boomer parents ever to walk the planet. I'd like to share my experience, even though it's probably not all that atypical. But it's a doozy of a story.

Housing prices can’t crash because a lot of suburbs are dependent on inflated housing prices so they can collect more property taxes. During the 2008 financial crisis, several towns either filed for bankruptcy or came close. Made the news and revealed how many towns, suburbs especially, are heavily dependent on higher housing costs.

I had a boomer push me for years to buy his RVs, boats, ATVs, etc. because he can’t sell them for anything. The type of people who can afford these are the types who can just buy them brand new. Now they just sit on his property, collecting rust and dust. The payments he makes on all this shit are brutal. His “toys” as he calls them.

RVs and boats have horrible resale value, in the case of RVs the build quality is often bad, and in the case of boats they have expensive maintenance costs. Used RVs more than 10-20 years old are frequently gross due to being lived in/not cleaned, and full of mold/water leaks from shit build quality. Boats frequently have deferred maintenance, which is why people with boat money usually just buy new.

ATVs are a little better in terms of build quality and maintenance, but face the same resale value issues, since they are a relatively niche product that doesn't appeal to everyone. Basically the only people who want them are people with land, those that live in an apartment or a townhouse or a suburb with small yard have no use for them, and thus don't buy them. And again, people with land usually have the ability to buy new.

People who buy "toys" like this assuming they can get any significant money when they sell them used, are morons.

I know everyone says milsurp prices (like wwii era guns) will crash, and maybe so, but those will probably be more stable given the prolifery of videogames (though nazi marked stuff will likely drop more). The market with I'm sure will crash hard though, is old west stuff. Lever guns and revolvers I expect will absolutely nosedive as zoomers and millenials have next to no connection with westerns or the old west at all. I imagine those prices will settle into the comfortable 4 digit numbers.

A lot of this shit will crash and burn for one simple reason: millennials and zoomers don’t have the space to accommodate collections. The “own nothing and be happy” consensus means you’re not going to have garage space for classic cars, den space for guns, etc. A lot of boomer keepsakes will end up in the landfill.

This guy bought his toys and then never used them. He bought this monster RV for $400k over a decade ago. He initially tried selling it for a profit, like $500k or some shit, because he only used it once or twice a year. By the time he asked me it was “only” the original amount he paid for it. He was never able to sell it so it just sits on his property. He does absolutely no maintenance so knows if the RV actually works these days. I would not trust it for any kind of extended trip, which is the purpose of having it to begin with. Nigger acted like he was losing his ass by selling it for the cost he bought it at.

I'm largely in agreement here. Even the "good" boomers don't have a concept of how their decisions affected their kids. Lots of creative ways to destroy their kids with no thought at all to their child's benefit, only their own amusement.

My uncle is the most asinine example of a "Model Boomer". In his late 70's and perpetually trapped in the 1960's and 70's, unable to modernize in any capacity; even my grandparents know how to operate cellphones, yet he still fumbles with his just to open the camera app then gets upset and gets my aunt to do it for him. Despite being a raging alcoholic, the work environment of his time allowed him to not only be tolerated, but even thrive. He worked as a Logger and spent most of his youth in Logging Camps, yet he still acts like one and generally comes across as brash, rude and pigheaded, traits that were sort of necessary in the rough-and-tumble scene of old logging camps. He never officially retired, instead he just sort of... stopped working and has been bumming around his house ever since. Has a atypical "I got mine!" attitude and generally does nothing to help his kids, while his wife actually does do stuff to help them. Forced his kids out of his house at 17 and even let one of them go homeless when times got rough. Because of this shitty behavior to his own kids, they resent him now and barely speak to him. If he wasn't asinine enough, he is also a lifelong Liberal Party voter who went full on "ELBOWS UP" during our last election - he suffers from acute TDS. Even if you try to avoid politics, he will eventually drag the conversation in that direction. Politics-wise, he is mindless cattle who obeys the TV man's words. Combine his unsavory lack of social etiquette and his penchants for alcohol and you can imagine why I hold little regard for my dearest uncle.

Honestly, he can almost be considered a Personal Lolcow for me. I can provide some more details of the weird and infuriating stuff he does.

I do want to see the Hughes amendment repealed, not just because it's gay but also destroying the boomer investment into full auto weapons, and I want to see the seethe.
Revolvers I do see holding as modern Revolvers have their purpose vs Semi-Auto handguns. Lever actions are just toys vs a modern bolt action or semi-auto.

All right. I'll try to keep the list relatively short
-Because this man is mentally trapped in his younger days as a logger, he has kept all of the social etiquette that comes from being surrounded by society's outcasts. One example is his lack of hygiene. He will go days without bathing and generally looks like a fucking hobo. Another unfortunate result of this is his propensity to walk around butt naked like it's not a big deal. If you tell him to act like a human and clothes himself, he gets pissy and brings up how people "back then" didn't complain about "being natural".
-Likes to play up a big game of how tuff he is, but seems to only get uppity with women and children. This is pretty common with boomers like him. "I'm da man of this house, bish!"
-Seems to think it's perfectly fine to drink and drive, not realizing that friendly, White Officer John Smith from church who just gives you a warning doesn't exist anymore. He's had his vehicle impounded multiple times and of course, it's not his fault. Someone else cut him off and caused him to swerve! Typical boomer lack of responsibility.
-Spent the vast amount of wealth he made throughout his life on frivolous toys like boats, trailers and cars. He claims they're for his kids to inherit, but he just leaves his toys laying around, covered in tarps, to rot.
-When his son was temporarily homeless, his only advice was for the son to live in the woods and save up money by "living off the grid like he did". Not only extremely callous lie, but completely detached from reality.

That's about as much as I can say without going into more personal details.

Bit of an awkward thing to post after my last post here, but... I think my parents might be waking up a bit? We had a conversation earlier about the economy, I think my dad at least is acknowledging that the older generations aren't exactly perfect and aren't training the new ones properly. Not much, but... baby steps, you know? I do also want to say, that I am very much thankful for a lot of the stuff that they have done for me; the economic downturn in the area has been rough.

Granted, my mother also went on a (literal) hour-long rant to her friend over the phone about the younger generations not being "as good" as the Boomers and shit-talking how much of a horrible person I was for the heinous crime of falling asleep during one church session and getting a severe migraine during the other, both after some VERY rough shifts at work, mind. According to her, I'm supposed to be little more than a drone that never reacts to anything unpleasant and should always be perfect - both of my parents outright said to my face that "church/God was more important than my life". They both just try to act like, since I'm not up to their standards of "happiness and social interaction" with people, then I'm clearly an "unhappy and miserable person who needs to rewrite his entire life according to what they want".

It's just... I genuinely WANT to be a lot more positive with these two, but it's really fucking hard.

That's not getting into some of the Boomers I've dealt with at work, believe me... if I have to clean one more used adult diaper...
