Book binding - Along with the related crafts of calligraphy and stamping.

So I've previously made the type of notebook where several sheets are folded in half and then bound. My more ambitious project is to hand copy The Unabomber's manifesto and bind that into a hardcover book imitating the methods used prior to the printing press. I wanted to use thick lines like a medieval manuscript but the ink would bleed through even thick paper.

So does anyone have experience with things like this?

Use thicker paper, ink doesn't bleed through things like watercolor or even a heavy-weight Strathmore. They sell book-binding kits online if you want to get your feet wet. Judging by the state of your room pics though you should get your priorities straight instead of jumping into hand-lettering and then binding a 35,000 word manifesto.

Have you tried looking up book-binding videos on youtube? I recently discovered this hobby myself and from what it looks like, it doesn't seem to be one of the hardest hobbies to get into either, it's just time consuming as all hell. Now, your ambitious project idea to hand-write the Manifesto will take a bit more practice and work, as you'd have to find the right paper (or even make it yourself, if you want to go that route). Watercolor paper is very nice, honestly just thinking this stuff over makes me very grateful to have vintage watercolor/heavy-weight paper.

Yeah I've got the basic idea of it down since I've bound blank paper already. I'm past experimenting and I've got waterproof inks, I've picked out the ideal nib size and a cardstock paper that will allow fairly bold letters without bleeding. My setup is a clipboard with different size rulers clamped to the sides to allow room for margins and for where the binding will be.

I'm new to calligraphy, I was going to use blackletter but that bleeds even through cardstock so I'm doing my regular handwriting with a dip pen. I've got cardstock, kitestring for binding and will likely use fiberboard and either leather or canvas for the cover.

I used to do calligraphy using the calligraphy pen. It was messy, would not recommend on my part lol.

The manifesto is relatively short and I figured it was fitting since I'm reviving a completely dead art form. And by dead I mean I googled to see if anyone else did this and besides Torah scribes nobody seems to do it.

I made a medieval girdle book. Hand bound. Covered in leather. It wasn't all that difficult. Used pergamentum as the paper. There are lots of how tos out there.
