Boogie and Dez are rednecks. It's very possible no one in their family tree has ever left the country. They are stereotypical live and die towns, 80 years pass and they died having done the same shit their parents and grandparents did. It's not like California where probably most people have traveled to another country, if you asked the average Arkansas resident if they'd traveled abroad before, the answer would probably either be no or only one time for probably at least ~1/3 of them. The graph below shows how common a passport is in certain states vs. others.



Also, $$$$. The minimum wage in Kansas where Dezi went to her family reunion at (although I think she is from Missouri) is $7.25. Where they're at right now, New York, the minimum wage is $15. All of a sudden the $2-4 beer is now $8-10 and it is hard to eat a meal for one for less than $10. Dez's family probably just could never afford it. Look at WingsofRedemption for example, he will die having rarely done anything other than drive trucks, watch TV and talk to his meemaw in a trailer. It's like that in a lot of places here. As such I think a lot of American's would simply rather travel interstate when they want to go on holidays. You don't really need a Passport as a form of ID because most people there have drivers' licenses. Unlike other countries where you need to go overseas in order to see something different due to their small size or similar climate.
