Bloodstained + Castlevania/Metroidvania - Or how I can't decide what this thread should be about

It's frustrating to see how popular this show got. With other awful adaptions like Halo or that Resident Evil show you get people (rightfully) shitting on them, but the original show gets way too much praise in normie circles, which in turn messes up search results, to the point where the first thing you get when you search Castlevania on any search engine besides Yandex is the show and not the games. And I hate that, because while the story in the games isn't amazing and filled with cliches, but it's honest. They are also filled with huge amounts of charm which presents itself in the music, level design, backgrounds, art etc. Meanwhile the show is written by a smug atheist hack who literally boasted about how he doesn't respect the source material and said the he wanted to punch Igarashi for not letting him put all his bullshit into the script, yet unlike the people behind the Halo show, he pretty much got away with it and even got praise for it. It's one of the biggest pseud shows out there and i find it really telling that the official account spoiled the new show less than 2 weeks after it's release. Anyways, the only piece of Castlevania media followed by the word nocturne should be this great song:

I like how he was handed a character whose name is historically connected to a rival clan of Dracula's and he pissed it all away because he thought the name was dumb.

And by "like" I mean fuck that fedora tipping faggot with a cactus.

As soon as I saw this thread I felt existential dread. Why was this back? Was some horrific sequel announced?

Oh, just a based take. Carry on.

But yeah the problem with new entries to established franchises is the Twitter astroturfing. It makes old entries seem anemic because nobody accounts for that.

V Rising is getting a Castlevania crossover, it comes out May 8th. This free update will add a Simon Belmont boss fight and Vampire Killer as a new weapon to the game. They're also launching a paid cosmetic DLC.
The least Konami could do is release a PC port for Grimoire of Souls since it's no longer a gacha (Capcom can do it with their failed gacha) but they want that to be exclusive to Apple Arcade for no reason at all. Enjoy these random crossovers for now, I guess.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a general Metroidvania thread, but can anyone tell me if Blasphemous 2 goes full retarded like the last DLC of 1 did?

What a terrible shame that was. Literally went into Kill God mode out of nowhere.

It doesn't have any DLC right now.

Well, usually that's a good sign.

I guess what I meant is the tone of it more like 1 sans last DLC, or more like 1 after last DLC?

"Castlevania Dominus Collection" was just announced during today's Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase. It's a collection of the DS Castlevania games + Haunted Castle (original and a "remake") and it releases today.

Well that was unexpected. I really need to go and get the other collections.
That Haunted Castle reimagining looks a little like The Adventure Rebirth, will the next collection be a re-release of the wiiware Rebirth games?

I'll try it for Order of Ecclesia without the damn stylus pen and the Haunted Castle remake. The original Haunted Castle was pretty bad and it was one of those fucky arcade games where you could not buy your way to victory, putting in quarters only restored life but it maxed out and you couldn't do it anymore. Only a handful of games did that. I think either Gradius 2 or 3 did that as well. And Double Dragon 3.

Happy to see some new Classicvania. Normally I'm skeptical of such remakes, but pretty much anything they do with Haunted Castle would probably be an improvement.
Might have spoken too soon... sources familiar with the matter have informed me that the Haunted Castle remake is absolutely retardedly easy and has zero replay value and anyone with basic motor skills will be completely done with it in a single sitting. So I guess they turned a game that's basically not worth playing at all into a game that's worth playing for like half an hour, unless there's some kind of secret hard mode. Well, idgaf anymore, I'll get around to beating Rebirth first.

All instances where the American version has jacked-up difficulty and pay2win features; many such cases. iirc most of the Japanese Gradius-es don't even have continues. You either git gud or you never see the ending, ever.

I torrented it. I dunno, the Haunted Castle remake isn't bad. Has that cheapy 2D sprite look tho. But yeah, I'm happy just to see a linear 2D game again. The new sprites and background were cool and reminded me of Splatterhouse. The difficulty is fair. I would put it on the easy side along with something like Castlevania 4. You don't unlock a hard mode or anything else after completing it.

I'm reading in some places that the DS games were retranslated and are not straight ports, because they have rewritten the coding, is that true?

If that's the case, then there's really no excuse for them not implementing the original high-quality sound versions of the Portrait of Ruin soundtrack:

My pirated copy of the new CV collection is only in Japanese but so far I kind of like Order of Ecclesia. The formula is getting stale and there's way too much fucking dialogue but I am digging it. I do think that when you beat a boss and there's nothing else in the level but only secrets it should ask if you want to leave rather than making you backtrack through it.

I never played Order of Ecclesia before, but I played DoS and PoR prior. I played it to the end and it's IMO the best DS title. The fight against Albus was dogshit.

I honestly think collabs / ports the ONLY thing Konami can do for a while. They wipes their whole dev house a while ago and probably need to rebuild it before trying to make a new game.

Remember Konami was more then happy enough to make Pacinko games for the rest of their lives until the Jap laws got changed.
