On the back way in from town, there's a ranch with a good number of beeves on it. One day I'm going by with my wife & kid and we spot a fresh calf along the fenceline, and the mother standing nearby, grazing.

"Hey, new cow!"; dropped the windows & slowed down to a crawl.
"Wow, really new cow!"

Then we got close and saw the mama cow was grazing on placenta; but we heard it first, slopping & crunching & snarfling down the afterbirth. Then it looked up at us, placidly dribbling bloody cud & slime.

I’d love to see a quokka (or two) one day. Who gave these silly things permission to be so cute?

I’m fascinated with Australian native wildlife in general. Even bin chickens and magpies. I can’t wait to visit.
