Blast From The Past - When you hear a song you haven't heard in years
There should be a video game/movie/tvshow/documentry/anything soundtrack thread. I'm surprised there isn't one on here at kiwifarms. Maybe I'll start one.
A few years ago, I checked out a few albums by the Smashing Pumpkins after hearing mention of them for years, with little familiarity beyond 1979/BWBW. It ended up resurfacing dormant memories of numerous songs that I haven't heard in ages, or were too disparate in sound for me to think they were the same artist. I had never revealed the origin of so many mystery songs simultaneously before, or since then.
I even recognized this track somehow, but considering it didn't get radio airplay, I have no clue when or where I might have heard it.
Haven't heard this classic for a while. Lyrics are underrated until you realise he's describing a very specific snapshot in his life about going to a seedy London pub, with a not very good Dixieland band playing, with a group of young guys playing pool in the back not caring, and then when the time bell rings this not great band tells everyone their band name: Sultans of Swing.
Turns out, a lot of Dire Straits' hit songs are about very specific, comparatively uneventful moments in Knopfler's life. Money for Nothing is him going to a New York hardware store and hearing one of the store employees complain about rock stars using many of the phrases that he turned into lyrics. Apparently upon hearing the unique way this guy was complaining he asked for some pen and paper and wrote down as many phrases as he heard. Same thing with that moment in the pub with the jazz band. Both songs he wrote ended up being massive hits.
This used to be everywhere in the late 2000s (much to everyone's chagrin), and it didn't even hit me that it was a decade ago when I last heard this song.
There was some space song midi from mimisk8 I used to have back when that was still a thing.
It was just called "space song" or "space" from mimisk8, pretty vague. Does anyone still have that song?
I don't actually like this song. But last Wednesday I was walking out of Wal-Mart, I heard this song coming out of the outside speakers. it gave me Vietnam flashbacks to One True Media videos with this song in the background flooding youtube's recommendations back in the mid 2000's - early 2010's
While watching some "legally acquired" episodes of Top Gear, I heard this song for the first time in years. I usually don't like this style of music, but I do like this song.
