This reminds me: I watched a video on 'artist' Jeff Koons the other day, and while I can commend his eye for detail to an extreme degree, his art can be hit or miss in terms of presentation and meaning.
His sculptures, like 'Seal Walrus (Chairs)' and 'Play-Doh' show an impressive technical prowess when it comes to detail. You wouldn't believe these were made of steel from a glance.
However, when it comes to his 'paintings'... if you can even call them his, there's very clearly one massive flaw. Especially when it comes to Gazing Ball series of paintings.
It's entirely comprised of works by other, famous artists, just with a blue ball placed in front of it. It doesn't build off the original works in a unique way, nor does it remix them to be meaningful.
His most egregious series to me would probably be Antiquity, which feels not only insulting to the artists that Jeff Koons 'borrowed' from, but there's always this stupid scribble at the front that looks more like a poorly drawn vagina.
Often with an object at the front that almost looks like one.
Now, his statues as part of the Antiquity series can be pleasant or interesting to look at, but there's still the fact that Jeff Koons as an "artist" (he literally has a bunch of other artists he orders around) focuses his work heavily on sexuality to an absurd degree. Jeff Koons will make anything about sex, which has numerous people believe that he's hypersexual or straight up has an object fetish.
