I want something that lasts at least a week and is intuitive for someone that's not super tech savvy. If it's a modification for pre-existing phones or androids that can count, but I was thinking potentially something like a cheap reliable dumb phone if the battery is a lot better.

The most important thing is easy communication with modern phones or failing that. Easy two way communication between two devices of the same type over long distance.

I had an AGM M9 as a backup phone for a while. It's basically the closest thing you can get (for a 4G device) to an old Nokia from the 2000s nowadays. Even uses Nokia 1100 style batteries, so you can always buy replacements. Mine was $50 unlocked.
If you can use it on 2G that's even better, I think there was a setting for that on mine. It doesn't have an Internet browser though and basically only does calls/SMS. The manufacturer claims it's IP68 water/dust resistant but I don't know how truthful that is.

Thank you. Saved me some hassle. If there's anything else like it with better battery I'll consider it but I think this is the one

I did forget one little detail, my bad. Basically it only works on T-Mobile or any carrier that uses T-Mobile towers in the US. However what you can do is just buy a cheap prepaid plan from Mint Mobile, that's what I've seen people do in the past.
Also if they want to listen to music on it you should invest in a microSD card, a 32GB one would probably work. The phone's internal storage is literally around 512MB.

Ok. Do you know how often you'd have to delete messages to save space and do you have any issues texting smart phones?

I can't remember the actual inbox capacity but it should at least hold a couple hundred text messages. MMS (photo) messages will fill it up faster, so watch out for that.

The only problem I had is that it can't receive emojis, they just show up as white boxes. You can still use old school emoticons though and it even has a built-in menu for quickly typing them.

I don't know if you can get them in the US but there's the Energizer P28k. The 28k refers to its 28,000mah battery. It's basically (literally) a power bank with a low end chipset and 6.8" touchscreen thrown in. It's a beefy boy but relatively ruggedized. After currency conversions they go for under $300, so pretty reasonably priced but I couldn't find it for sale on any US retailers

Awesome thank you again. The only thing left is I already have a mint plan for my main phone I've had for a while, but I assume I can't share it and have to get a new one for the M9

Most likely yes, you'll have to get a new plan. I don't use Mint though so I'm not sure. From the basic research I did apparently they're not the best when it comes to family plans.
