My favorite faction paints in MWO were easily Marik, Rasalhague and Kurita (honorable mention to Clan Wolf). Also was a fan of the Awesome despite it being constantly denigrated as a shitmech, few things feel better than a triple HPPC headshot.
I've had a few horror stories like that show up in my last campaign. Never sure how they got the tonnage for it, though. Also, am I the only one who quits after finishing the story? After a mission like Crucible its hard to go back to the procedurally-generated dreck you've ground through for ages to get there.
No, you're not the only one. The procedurally-generated missions are okay for grinding out credits or experience, but once there are no more objectives besides credits and experience things get too dull for my tastes.
The VTR-9A1 custom uses a STD260, so it's not the usual agile Victor but in Defense missions you don't really usually have the ability to range/kite.
Can't wait to see how Reloaded and the AI tweaks turn that mission into a fuckfest. I love the challenge so far, it's like a completely different game in terms of challenge. You now have to pay serious attention to loadouts, bring your A-game for component focusing, wrangle lancemates effectively, no more sleepwalking through missions once you get a full lance of assaults.

Yeah, they're the know fun allowed faction but they have a cool doctrine (Light Mech spam and high mobility tactics followed by the heavy, Mailed fist.), Red and grey look great on the table and they gave us the single greatest unit in Battletech History: The Legion of Vega; a motley assemblage of everyone who doesn't measure up to the honorabu samurai schtick, put in one shock unit with all of the other freaks and geek. They have a nasty habit of not dying despite the wishes of their fucked up authoritarian government, making them a darwinian breeding ground for bad motherfuckers.Yes the Dracs are the official No Fun Allowed IS faction, possibly even more than the Capellans due to their whole "shamefur dispray" attitude towards things that aren't sand gardens or seppuku which is why its half-rhetorical. "Oh no, I deliberately conquered a planet filled with things I dislike and now I am angry. How could this ever have happened?" I'm also well aware of those two disliking each other, which is why I mentioned the Dracs forcibly conquering the FWL to make customs a non-issue. Hmm... now we see why they hate the Davions so much given the quite literal cockblocking they're pulling on Space Japan.
Possibly my other favorite faction, There's unexplored potential here.
The FWL suffers from not being the writers' pets, and from being mostly a secondary player in the Clan Invasion and other storylines. Like them or hate them, the arrival of the Clans was, by a fair margin, the most important event in the Classic BattleTech storyline. And after that you had the FedCom Civil war... in which they also played second fiddle to the FedSuns and the Lyrans. I think the Blakist storyline felt like a contrived way to make the Word of Blake more powerful than it had any right to be, but the dissolution of the Free Worlds League at the very least opened the way to a truly interesting FWL-specific storyline in Jessica Marik's efforts to put FWLumpty Dumpty back together again.
Damn, thanks for bringing these guys to my attention. That's a paint-scheme that will look absolutely amazing on the table.
They have the added bonus of being actively antagonized by their own chain of command. They don't get resupply unless it's absolutely necessary, there are secret police all up and down their ranks and the DCMS will randomly go "Yeah, we decided not to give you guys your paycheck for the month and will instead be paying you by the job. If you're going to act like a bunch of honorless mercenaries, we'll compensate you as such.
Yeah, they thematically fit rather well with the Ghost Regiment, who are also misfits but with strong ties to the Yakuza. Those ties lead to rather awesome tattoo-style drawings on their mechs, which will serve absolutely nicely to drive me completely insane, when I attempt to paint them.
