🦊 FurryBarq.app - A dating site for furries by furries, from babyfurs to babymamas
Barq has had some pretty interesting events happen over the last two weeks.
First off, Barq pushed out an update that (among other things) started cracking down on people using Android emulators and VPNs and is forcing you to get your friends to vouch for your account. Please pardon the phone screenshots; they don't seem to list this information anywhere but on the actual app itself.
Honestly, I only discovered this because one of my lurker accounts was banned without any reason (even though the profile is empty and I never engaged with anyone through it). I hate to admit it, but if any courageous Kiwis want to investigate profiles, they might actually need to install this app on their own phone or tablet rather than just using an emulator.
(If any Barq staff are reading this: Joke's on you guys, I have more socks you haven't found yet, and you will not stop me from screenshotting this shit. Come at me, faggots )
Secondly, Barq had a panel at this year's Anthrocon where they invited some deer fursuiter to do some sort of live interview for a podcast. I'm not sure. I didn't really watch it or really care; that's not the important part.
What's more important is that at some point between this panel and the end of Anthrocon, Flame would make a tweet where he thought babyfurs were gross and sexualizing infants was fucking creepy. I'm unable to find the exact tweet that the Flame Deer guy posted (because he deleted it and furries are fucking terrible at correctly archiving anything), but whatever intern runs the Barq Twitter decided to sperg the FUCK out over this and proceeded to disavow Flame over his stance on not wanting to defend sexualizing infants.
Barq would then delete these tweets about two hours later, presumably because they realized defending sexualizing infants was horrendously terrible optics. Cue a bunch of furries sperging about how "sexualizing infants is totally not pedophilic, you guys" while being massive degenerates themselves. I could post dozens of those, but I think this one from BetaEtaDelota (who already has a KF thread) sums this mindset pretty well:

Finally, Barq announced earlier today that putting any AI artwork on your profile would be a bannable offense, and you have until the end of July to remove it from your profile. An announcement that's so important they pinned it to their fucking Twitter profile.

Furries are way too autistic about using AI lmao. Imagine getting banned from a fucking gay sex hookup app for uploading a piece of AI art.
So just to reiterate: Barq thinks sexualizing infants is completely acceptable content on their service, but uploading a piece of AI art is a bannable offense. I think that says a lot about the people running this shitshow.
Kill them all. We used to lynch scum for shit like this. Harming children is a desecration of innocence. Pedophiles and their nonce enablers should die. I got a little carried away.
I am more surprised Coca-Cola didn't sue for using the same name as their Root Beer brand. Now the drink will be associated like Cheese Pizza is with CSAM.
So just to reiterate: Barq thinks sexualizing infants is completely acceptable content on their service, but uploading a piece of AI art is a bannable offense. I think that says a lot about the people running this shitshow.
Holy fucking shit the sheer idea that pedophiles literally getting off to toddlers in diapers is allowed, but AI art is THE LINE that can't be crossed is absolutely insane to me. Yeah pedophiles are cool and fine but if you DARE use ChatGPT you better watch your back...
Here's the Tweet of the flame-grilled deer. Don't have an archive but it was posted in the replies of the AI tweet. The user handle is some peak irony lol L
Update to Barq's stupid spergout over defending sexualizing children: They're trying to claim that they deleted them because they realized it was unprofessional, then replaced them with a more professional post. They just didn't bother to post it to Twitter, because... someone on the staff told them not to? No, I'm not sure how that makes sense either.

This is at least half-true because at the same time as the original incident, Barq also posted the same babyfur spergout to Bluesky, deleted it, but then posted this follow-up post a few hours later. It doesn't seem to be on their Twitter, just Bluesky. I think a lot of people missed this the first time because nobody willingly checks Bluesky.
And yes, if any furries are reading this, nobody fucking uses Bluesky. Here's a screenshot of the same post they crossposted to Twitter, where it got less than 10% of the engagement it did over there.

So remember: using your hookup app to defend sexualizing infants and stabbing your featured guests in the back within literal hours after featuring them? Totally acceptable. But god help you if you ever use ChatGPT because we'll ban you on the spot. Fuck barq.
Two of the three furries who run the Barq podcast both tweeted that they were quitting. Especially notable because they both posted their quitting tweets within two minutes of each other.

They were both people who managed Barq's social media, and have now been conveniently wiped from the Barq website and replaced with entirely different people.
Before:
After:
The responses to Harbee and Eight's tweets imply they weren't fired, but quit because they took issue with upper management at Barq tripling down on enabling people to literally get off to children on their app.
To me, there's still a bigger question that nobody seems to be asking: why did a hookup app need a podcast in the first place?
