So it's a subversive shitfest with loads of le wacky meta commentary, virtue signalling and pretty much hates its own subject matter.

Yup, it's a modern day hollywood movie alright.

I don’t think that’s a marketing thing, just an internet meme thing. Like when Animal Crossing and Doom came out on the same day.

Like I’m pretty sure the Oppenheimer guy was annoyed by it.

Wasn't there an old (1950s or '60s) Twilight Zone or Outer Limits episode with the exact same plot line?
 
I find it absolutely bizarre that Ryan Gosling brought out so much enthusiasm and goodwill as Ken, bringing in people who otherwise would never be interested in a Barbie movie, and they didn't think to do some reshoots or something to make him not the villain. It might make the movie more of a mess than it already is, but I'm perplexed that they would tank such an easy slam dunk like that.

So this is the same type of hypocritical IP deconstructionism we saw in The Last Jedi?
 
In a perfect world, both this and Oppenheimer would get 0$ worth of Box Office given that both are moralfagging about values (patriarchy and nuclear weaponry).
