The nation is being urged to stop mindlessly scrolling through their social media and take a look outside, as the moon is reported to be hella big right now!

A brighter and fuller version of the moon, known as a ‘super moon’ will be lighting up the sky tonight and tomorrow night.

This phenomenon is due to the moon reaching its closest point to earth during its orbit, making it appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter.

This moon, which is the first of four back to back super moons, is known as the ‘harvest moon’ as it’s traditionally the time of year for gathering crops as farmers had more light to work longer days.

Though the moon will not change in size or brightness throughout the night, it will look its biggest just after dusk, which is roughly between 7:30pm to 8pm for New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.

For the more backward states that refuse to adapt to daylight savings, Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia can expect the moon at its brightest between 6:15 to 7:00pm.

There will also be another three more super moons come November 5 (Beaver moon), December 4 (cold moon) and January 25 (wolf moon).

People are now being urged to point out the window and say ‘look, the moon’ to their partners, and to break up with them if they don’t show enough enthusiasm.

More to come.

This is a good article. I read the whole thing and felt good at the end of it.

The sense of wonder we feel as we look up to the night sky and see its beauty? Let’s mock that. Look down at your screens, and be happy!
