Baldur's Gate III Announced - ...and it's coming to Google Stadia and PC

I was told to take the Mountain Pass first to advance certain characters’ stories, but I’ve also heard the fights can be very rough if you want gone through the Underdark yet.
I did both, you can head through the early areas of both and turn back so long as you don't progress but that first fight with the harpers and the shadow monsters ripped my whole party open.

I got to the party last night, the game acts like you have to head to Moonrise Towers immediately afterwards but you can still do side quests, right? There's several I haven't finished and I don't want to lock myself out of any by proceeding into Act 2.

You can dick around and do even the underdark and mountain pass, before actually passing through them. Underdark has a lot of content you don't want to miss.

Yeah, feel free to kill time. Getting to the towers is not one of the “timed quests”.

Who is “Shovel” and why are people trying to figure out how to make it a permanent summon?

EDIT: figured it out. Good thing I keep collecting everything that isn’t nailed down. Seems easy enough

bringing shadowheart to the lazael camp is a fucking idiotic idea correct?
Assuming you're talking about the Githyanki crech, not entirely. The only reason it seems like an idiotic is because she has the artifact on her, but if you leave her at camp then the artifact ends up in your inventory anyway. To experience all the content at the creche I'd recommend bringing the artifact with you and make sure Lae'zel is in your party.

In the middle of the mountain path are two death avatars and a dozen ghouls, so yeah. Maybe don't takee the path yet.

A VERY important part in this entire quest is the hidden boon that turns all your mindflayer abilities into bonus abilities. All of them. Have fun getting it tho.
For anyone wondering about the cost, you can heal it with restoration, nbd.

Man, this game is really making me realize I have some real issues in terms of “choosing the best path” in a game. I keep freaking out about what choice is the best one to make and if I’m doing a quest in the most optimal way to get the most rewards. And the whole point of the game is “play any way you want to”, but I still get overly worried I’m missing something cool or whatever.

you cant get minthara without genocyding the druids right?
also if you wait 2 full camps you can let that fucker drowd in the mines choke itself to death on the gas chamber lmao

The only ever optimal path mechanic-wise iirc is:
-Thayan book of the dead
-Hag bribe for extra stat by letting her do all her boss phases, throwing water at the cage, and then beating the shit out of her to near death.
-Fucking Shar over
-Fucking Shar's ritual over for two extra stat points
-Entertaining the weird goth vamp fetishist for two more stat points.
-Maybe killing the annoying angry aasimar's gf when you can as Durge.
-Beating the shit out of the bard nonlethally ASAP before you long rest so she's alive and her questchain works, for the free instrumeent proficiency (help her lern2lute by using a lute, ignore EVERY before skillcheck).
-Don't give the egg to the weird woman, neither of them.

I was wondering this myself. I've seen people say both yes and no.

Playing according to your character rather than what's best makes for a more satisfying and stress-free experience in any RPG.
I was going Legion in FNV, and there was no fucking way I could ever justify sparing Joshua or anyone in that valley. They were pathetic, one uppity faggot thought I was intruding on some pathetic savages' land, and the other man opposed my character's beliefs as well as his association with a faction he was very sympathetic to.

The ending narration tries to make you feel bad, but I was satisfied. I fulfilled my goal of purging the weak, got back to the Mojave, and tied up a few loose ends while I was at it. Worth more than any kind of bonus chest loot.
