Okay I cheated and maxed out a monk, I have to say elemental monk does look pretty neat with what little they reworked on it, since technically the spells you cast auto-heighten instead of requiring extra ki points, so you won't burn all your ki just spamming scorching ray or fireball anymore. So that's nice.
Also you really still need arcane initiate somewhere, since ele monk has no cantrips - and while there's nothing you can do at range still as an ele monk using bonus actions. Martial Arts bonus procs from any ele monk spell while you can use flurry of blows as a bonus action in general, I guess. So there's that.
Bad thing is stunning strike isn't a passive anymore, but an actual combat maneuver.
