It's hard to do marketing with forced slavery, genocide, racism, cannibalism, child kidnapping and torture.
And yes, I'm telling you what I found in Early Access.
There are moments, where if you break from the "this is just a game" mindset and take a moment to consider, you end up thinking "you know, this is kind of fucked up what the hell". A quick example, that's early and very minor spoiler, is if you have Speak with Animals and you kill an Owlbear mother, you talk with the kid who says it's sad, then says it's hungry, then stars eating his dead mother. I honestly was like "wtf nigga". Imagine if that scene was marketed instead of le funny r*ddit bear sex.
Thanks for this info man! With all the stuff you listed this is going to make the nu-D&D fans and ResetEra shit their pants in triggered rage when they play this. Larian marketed this game as a "fun Critical Role style adventure filled with quirky humor and romance", when it seems like this game will tackle dark subject matters that were present in the pervious Baldur's Gate games. Now I'm looking forward to seeing the outrage over the games more serious subject matters on ResetEra. You just know, with this info, that they are going to be livid and say that Larian tricked them. Many laughs will be had in the month of August. :story:

There's always the chance that those themes will go right over their heads.
Like I said, the game is all about choices and consequences. What would've happened, if instead of degenerate coomer meme marketing, Larian would've went with something like this?

Pre ordered it, probably going to have a lot of fun.

I get that being cynical is basically required to post here but man some of you guys have your brains just absolutely rotted by identity politics.

I hope it does end up being fun for you; no joke, I really hope you get your money's worth. Fun's the most important factor, after all.

And, yeah; plenty of people here have gotten brain rot thanks to politics. It's just that people on all sides love to put politics into literally everything these days, and plenty of people are just worn down from it all.

Poor Michael Jackson.

I've just played it when it hit early access, thought it was way lesser than their older games not only on gameplay but also on setting. Recently I was told because I hadn't since then my opinion was invalid so I found an up to date version and played that as well. My views have not changed in that regard, 5e is just plain shittier than having class/stat/AP freedom their own system provided, even if it was unbalanced as fuck. Rivellon changes major things with every game since they don't seem to have an overarching design document for the setting but it's also loads more interesting than Forgotten Realms again.

All of the pandering and bear sex shit is just icing on a game that's already way less interesting than what came before, however janky that was, and calling it Baldurs Gate at all is so blatantly just done to cash in on a popular franchise that was very much done.

I will pretty certainly get the GoG version from somewhere and have a decent enough time, but I will also be reminded that they could have made a better game and also not given WoTC and Hasbro money.

I am glad no where is offering preorder discounts, because I would otherwise be tempted.
I think the truth'll be somewhere in the Middle. Fort Joy in DoS2 is masterful and its where the most criticism and work was done in EA. Act 2 and 3 in particular however, felt amaturish by comparison.
I enjoyed the whole game, though I only started playing it in 2020, so it might have been worse on release.
The first chapter of bg3 has been play tested to insanity, but most of the game hasn't.

Yep, maybe they should have a long starwars style rolling intro with all the trigger warnings at the start. Or at least warn them that Pit Fiends and Balors sometimes don't use the correct neopronouns.
The Dark Urge did get a decent amount of marketing attention, but there are worse things than murderhobos.

BioFail are pozzed. They added planet from KotOR 2. And that fugly nappy hair sidecut gorilla looking nigger. Take every stereotype about how manly nigresses are and you will get how she looks. Worst of all, these soy guzzling niggerloving faggots put that creature to fucking loading screen, so every time you launch the game or load area from new content - you will see that monkey looking cunt. And she is a quip spewing girlboss cunt, believe me. Imperial side is on par. So it's a lose-lose

All the better when you beat her with a white male Sith for the patriarchy lol. At least the mando girlboss used to be pretty.

I don't really mind "mediocre" art quality as long as they at least try. Stellaris wasn't a huge graphics sink yet it was a hit. You can get away with being 5 to 10 years behind in graphics, but that needs a good game. This is kind of the reverse of Raid shadow legends, which has good graphics for a mobile game, its just the game itself that sucks major ass.

Murderhobos are fun.

When I tried the beta a bit, it was okey. Temper your expectations. Whenever its worth its price is entirely up to how much money you got. If you are rich american, sure its worth a buy, if a poorfag from slavsquat lands, I would say torrent it.

I like the idea of Stellaris, but a campaign takes way too long. Sometimes I watch abridged 2 hour playthroughs on youtube at 2X speed if I get the urge to play it again.

People don't think that women can be coomers but let me tell you, women have thirst and the types of smut they make would make a porno director blush.
I'd say thanks to the rise of weebdom by now most people know about fujoshi, which apparently are so bad even the otakus look down on them (and those would welcome female nerds with open arms).
the western version are shippers, which are already mocked and considered weird at best (going all the way back to twilight, if not further, but that was before the internet became infested with normalfags).

as for fallout, there might be an indie filling that niche (at least for the first two), but it's not exactly my genre so I never rally paid much attention. I mean the criticism how fallout got ruined isn't new or rare, so I'd expect someone to do a "proper" one with the serial numbers filed off.

Hype is dangerous. Cyberpunk was an okay game. Mediocre.
it's important to remember that the hype was fueled by CDPR themselves, promising all kinds of shit to the point making up fake gameplay demos for journos to keep the hype going.
so it shouldn't be surprising if you expect a "living breathing city with NPCs having their own lives" and "deep rpg mechanics" (which they tried to wiggle out of by re-labeling it an "adventure" game late during development), only to glitch through a closed door and run into the same 3 copies of some uggo npc t-posing around you before disappearing behind a corner...

Pre ordered it, probably going to have a lot of fun.

it's not like people had much choice unless they were ok with going full uncle ted, so being (overly) sensitive about that shit in [current year+8] is the only natural outcome.

I remember as a teen seeing fujoshi's and their disgusting fanfic and art in even the most niche of online communities. They were tolerated by the men in those fandoms as they just wanted to get in those girls pants. However, with the rise of the trans ideology not so much anymore as fujoshi's tend to poon out and make it clear that they have no interest in straight men but want to just fuck and date gay men in order to enact their yaoi fetish.

With shippers the general disdain for them comes from the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Star Wars used to be a heavily male fandom and Disney wanted didn't like that. They wanted to turn Star Wars into a girl brand so they went out of their way to bait shippers with the Reylo ship. When their ship didn't happened you saw the general insanity of shippers. Threatening to send mail bombs to JJ Abrams, Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy's house. IRL harassing Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and their families in hopes of making their ship come to life.

I guess the real problem that people now have with fujoshi's and shippers is that, for them, the fantasy isn't enough anymore. They want that fantasy to become a reality because they feel that these characters are them and that they belong to them so they should be how they want them to be. It reminds me a lot of Annie Wilkes from Misery. There is a reason why it is important to not indulge too much in fantasy and have your roots firmly grounded in reality.

If any of you guys want a good Fallout replacement I would recommend ATOM RPG. It is a game made by a Ukrainian dev team that loved the OG Fallouts and other CRPG's of the past. You can get it cheap on Steam too.

Honestly jrpgs aren't rpgs. They are jrpgs, with their very own take on it. Which is fine and good, don't get me wrong. There is nothing inherently bad about a jrpg.

Yeah, Cyberpunk was hyped by the polacks, but all companies say their product is 100% unique the best world changing shit that will change and redeem your life.

The closest I've found is Encased, it's got kind of the Fallout feel but with the Roadside Picnic kind of setting. It's budget and janky and it drops off a bit after the first act but I feel as confident recommending it as I am recommending War For The Overworld for people who want some of that old school Dungeon Keeper we never got again thanks to EA. They even got the narrator from the original Dungeon Keepers back in the day.

people have been doing that after the end of evangelion 20 years ago :story:

but western fujos aren't as bad as the japanese ones (yet), I mean look at the name alone. dunno if we'll ever get there. shippers are already working on it tho, there's isn't anything wrong with #teamjakob or #teamedward, but if you want the male leads to hook up it gets weird. supernatural even made fun of it where shippers wrote fanfic about them and they went "don't they know we're brothers?". and fuck that reminds me of all the frozen flickfic.... fucking tumblr.

most companies do, but people don't believe it (unless they're really retarded).
but CDPR sold itself as the "good guys" and lot of goodwill from witcher 3, so people were less skeptic. they knew exactly what they were doing.

Good point, and if they had, I might be more interested in the game. But marketing doesn't just reflect audience preferences, it reflects dev priorities too. You lead with what you feel is your strongest pitch. And time after time, they're leading with pitches, themes, and features I want to actively avoid.

some of you guys have your brains just absolutely rotted by identity politics.
I don't think that's a valid accusation when BG3's lead artist does an interview with the word "identity" in every other paragraph.

That's like seeing thunderstorm and flood warnings on the news for a week, and calling your wife a crazy hydrophobe for worrying that the garden will drown.

Mario is an RPG because you play the role of Mario. The point of an RPG is not that you play the role of someone, but you make your own role from character creation to the choices you make.
It really isn't and that's just splitting hairs.

Let's put it another way. People acknowledge JRPG is a thing. Literally has RPG in it. Just say western rpg and sound less retarded. People already made this distinction when dark souls came out.

"Not muh true rpg!"
