Avoiding trouble caused by LGBTs as an artist/author - How to avoid drama about your stories/characters.

Just what it says on the tin! I really wanna write a story and make a visual novel, but there's no way I can without those losers complaining about superficial nonsense like what this character "identifies as" or who that character is fucking. Hell, in the cast's character references that are only available to me, I put "sex" instead of "gender identity " or whatever which will never fly amongst the usual consoomers of the genre I've chosen foe my passion project.

And so I came here for advice.

I feel like trying to remain neutral (by saying things like "Oh, that's up for you to decide!") isn't a very good idea and I've never appreciated that kind of "easy way out" approach. Besides, I don't believe it will last long and they'll eventually cancel me, but on the bright side I've found a lot of stuff I've liked from things genderspecials have shunned to oblivion. Maybe others will too?

So even if you aren't a writer, artist, etc. what would you do if you were put in this situation?
 
Just make things absolutely clear with your characters and story, and let the crazies write their fan fictions. Laugh at and ignore those who go out of their miserable way to harass you.
 
Just do what you want. It's your passion project. Don't focus on what other people say and just make it. You can't make everyone happy.
 
is this actually something you've encountered or a fear in advance? Hate comes from below. As long as you're small enough and you're not going out of your way to antagonize, you're unlikely to attract that king of attention.

And if you do, just aikido redirect it. It usually takes quite a bit of effort to turn your work into a combat spot for the culture wars.

Personally I think a creative of any kind, if you find yourself thinking about these things, ot can be best to play with the expectations that viewers have and subvert their expectations once or twice. Once your work is harder to pigeonhole it will be harder to make accusations stick and it will be more interesting to engage with.

You should really be grateful that you have someone sperging about your work at all, even if it is Tumblr shippers.

Wait for any gay headcanons to pop up then just shoot them down one by one with a canon.
 
I think the best bet is to never let them get a foot in the door.

Most of the time that people wind up getting eaten alive by the crazies, it's because they took the Faustian bargain of pandering to them at some point before which takes a more organic, slow-developing audience and supplants it with bunch of zealous short-term ass kissers who, once they know they own you and you're alienated from normal people, will turn on you the second you're out of lockstep.

They're kind of cult like in that way. They're also like vampires, because they suck and you should never invite them in if you know what's good for you.

Like how CrunkLord420 here on the site came up with that license scheme which allows anyone to freely distribute a program so long as the word "nigger" is featured prominently somewhere in the documentation.
 
As an artist, my strategy has always been to avoid associating myself or my artwork with anything political. I've been doing this for the entirety of the decade and a half I've posted my work online and it works wonderfully. The trick is to ALWAYS ignore them and pretend the culture war doesn't exist. The worst thing you can do to a lib is completely ignore them and refuse to play their game. It gets under their skin when they can't exert control over you and/or get a reaction out of you that they can use to humiliate you. It works like a charm.
 
I learned as an artist from another artist that people are gonna take your art and do whatever they want with it anyway, so I would just not make a big deal out of it.
Don't fall to pressure to make a lgbt or diversity character from fans begging. Stay silent. Just focus on your work. Let the audience make fanfics, fanart, etc.
 
Do what you want with your OCs, it is nice to let your creativity express what they could give you.
Absolutely recommend ignoring what those retarded people does or headcanon or whatever, it is your right to do anything with your projects by your liking without bothering those retards.
 
are there any particular case studies of people in the field getting "canceled" that you can study?
