Now what if we developed a technique for in-vitro fertilization that would screen the gametes for any genetic signs of autism?
That way there'd be no need for an abortion. The autistic sperm or egg would simply never get the chance to meet at all, and parents worried about autism and other major disorders could simply pick the preferred cells to make their kid.

Autism has become a major thing so analyzed and scrutinized because it's on the rise! Obviously something's to blame!!
...Except the thing is, a thousand conditions that years ago would have been considered minor psychological quirks or genetic damage. Asperger's and countless other minor conditions, learning deficiencies, and developmental disorders are all covered now under the almighty Autism banner. IIRC, Down's is considered an Autism spectrum disorder by some states for the purposes of Alt-Ed placement. So the biggest reason for the rise is an increase in diagnosis. Fucking ADD/ADHD are considered Autism spectrum now.
This said.
I work with developmentally disabled kids. Some of them have Cerebral Palsy or atrophied legs due to some kind of muscular/skeletal disorder and the skeletons living inside them need help. All of 'em have the big A atop this. A lot of these kids also are nonverbal, or deaf, or have sensory disorders as well. A few rare students have the full package, like one intensely kind little girl we have who can't hear without mechanical assistance, is blind in one eye, is barely mobile, and confined to a wheelchair. She still participates, even in her limited state, in the day-to-day goings on in and around her school. Each kid has a suite of problems which in turn means they require specialized care. Many have full-time nurses, full-time medical care, and several cannot survive on their own or accomplish anything on their own without assistance.
Many of these kids can talk. They're brilliant, they're kind, and they're real achievers despite their hindrances. Talk to 'em and you'll learn more than you ever expected because these kids aren't fooled by context. They're always listening, always learning, and they know who has their back and who their friends are. Even the nonverbal ones.
But their struggle's still there. And it's heartbreaking. So you do the only thing you can do - you celebrate their successes. You ignore the shit hand they were dealt, and you help 'em be the best they can. But they know, even with this. These kids would do anything for a level of normalcy. Fuck, some of them have! One of the parents on our runs has spent a sizable fortune just making sure that their child can have something resembling a level of quality of life. Thanks to the procedures, their kid can see and hear. You'd better believe that if a cure existed, these parents would murder the gods themselves to help their kids. And it's worth noting, this said: Atsimu is one slice of the exceptionally large shit pie they were served, but it's one that these kids, and more importantly, their parents, would cure tomorrow if there was a chance.
Similarly, you guys with legit Autism here on the Farms? We're cool. I have respect for you guys.
Wanting a cure for it has nothing to do with you all. Keep rocking and try to keep your respective power levels down, you're all better than that.
Which brings us, finally, to these Autism Culture Faggots.

They're Autistic in the same way Vade is.
Don't believe me? Take a good fucking long look at their dialogue. It's fucking identical to the claims used by the transracial, transableism, Multiple System, and Otherkin communities. As I reported on in this fucking article here, the Multiple System community looks at legitimate psychological diagnosis as murder because of the medically-accepted way to deal with multiple personality disorder and delusional mania (integration). For fuck's sake, even the Wikipedia article on these dumbasses says openly that they originated from the counter-culture against Autism treatments, and the most common arguments against testing for genetic markers are specifically as alarmist as fucking possible.
Which brings us to their peer reviewed content: Articles that specifically covers how Autistic people are not treated well enough by the state (a legitimate argument). None of them make the argument in a credible way that Autism is something that must be preserved and is necessary. Quite the contrary, cursory examination of Autistic conditions show that the bulk of them count as physical, mental, and psychological maladies. I don't see anyone making the argument that fucking Polio needs to stick around, but I do see people saying that Down's Syndrome does, since that's covered under Autism Spectrum by the state.
All of which lead me to the meat and potatoes of what I'm getting at, which is that assholes like this fall into the same category a fucking Vade. The exact fucking same. "But Jaimas!" I hear you declare with alacrity. "This individual clearly has Autism!" To which I respond: "Yes, and about 90% of them are going to be all about shrieking about how great their Autism is so they can use it as an excuse for why they should never be held accountable for their actions." Take a long look at these brain-geniuses preach, and you see the same dicking patterns. In fact, canny Kiwis will immediately fucking notice that someone y'all should know by now has made these same fucking arguments. If you haven't figured it out, they helped cultivate the first generation of Autistic people.
So.... Yes, we should recognize the achievements of Autistic people.
And yes, we should fight for the rights of those with Autism to have better, more independent lives.
What we should not do is listen to people who claim that we must allow Autism to remain untreated and unopposed because muh culture. To ignore it when assholes cynically use it as a fucking anti-criticism shield. These people can - and will - ADF this shit if you let them. To many of these people, any condition they have is just currency to be bartered in the Disadvantage Economy. The only solution is to mock those who do so and fight for the ones who aren't fucking pricks.

Not sure Down syndrome can be considered a manageable disability. Unless your kid is extremely lucky, he will be dependent on pre-teen levels of care his entire life. Most autists at least have a shot at self sufficiency.

The greats of the past with physical and mental problems weren't great because of them. They were great in spite of them. And for all the aspects of those problems that might have helped contribute to their greatness, they weren't worth the suffering they caused the greats and those around them.
There's nothing in the history of the planet more toxic than the sentimentalization of human suffering.
That said, the issue of abortions for people with Down's and people with a predisposition to autism is very different. An abnormal chromosome count is very easy to spot, and very easy to predict what the life of those born with it'll be like. We aren't even kind of close to understanding what causes autism. Even if we went full China and gave every baby in the country an abortion screening and didn't give parents a choice, people with every level of ASD will still be born.
