By using animals as an allegory and saying the characters can feel discriminated for being different animals is the writers' way of saying non-whites are a different species than humans. This is the same shit with the cats vs. dogs in that new animated Blazing Saddles reboot.

I always thought the idea of different animals was to avoid the concept of race altogether, like how in Doug, he was "white" but his classmates, friends, and neighbors were various shades of green, purple, and orange.

This is actually why core old school Disney characters were animals, too, which was somewhat progressive for the time. People of all nationalities and races can enjoy characters of mice, dogs, and ducks.

Blacksad tries the same shit and it came off weird.
Off-Topic, but I heard that game was poorly optimized. I know when YMS tried playing it, it froze his computer when switching to joystick controls. And when i tried to play it via Wine, it chugged slower than velveta cheese paste out of the packaging, and i couldn't change the ridiculously large resolution cause the options were blurry as fuck.

I was talking about the original comic not the game. I haven't played the game myself.

As other posts have stated, how does the allegory of racism work this series has never established the racial or ethical background of characters with the exception of a Christmas special (more on in a bit)? It was not set up like what the graphic novel, Maus, did for the Holocaust.

The aforementioned Christmas special, which came out in 2000, was the only time it revealed these traits. And it was only two of the main cast with Francine being Jewish and Brain's family is of African descent, I guess, since they were celebrating Kwanzaa.

The like/dislike ratio gives me hope.
But comments are turned off

Either they knew this was a bad idea but could care less what people have to say about it, or didn't know it was a bad idea but are too much of a pussy to let people speak their minds about the video.

Didn't they do segments about race in that Buster travels spin over a decade ago? I remember being pretty bored and wishing that it would go back to being funny color cartoons.

Remember how Arthur helped kids understand 9/11 by making a nuanced analogy by having their school catch fire? Remember how the characters felt a wide range of emotions from loss, to survivors guilt, to emotional attachment disorders, to imposters syndrome, and they all found different ways to cope with them? Remember how it took a National tragedy and put it in terms a kid could actually understand while still treating the situation with respect and not demeaning the kids? Kids are going to grow up someday are realize that there is more to racism than “it’s like a disease”, and that’s going to foster resentment when they find that their legitimate grievances are given infantile responses. Kids are going to grow up in an America where the black boy can wail on you and call you a cracker colonist, but the second he drops the gamer word he is all of a sudden the biggest bad guy ever. Hell we’ve been living in that world for the past 5 years. Why do you think Gen Zed is the rightest generation yet? I can’t wait to see to see what politics looks like in 10 years

Early 2000s culture was so superior to today's that it's painful.

I often wonder if the fundamental issue with the modern world is simply a fundamental lack of intelligence, everything has been so dumbed down over the years, once upon a time a show like Arthur could tackle a heavy issue in a good way, but people are simply less intelligent now than they were back then.
