It's their network they're allowed not to air what they don't want to air. The guys who own the show can give the rights to another Alabama TV channel if they're unhappy.

This annoys me every fucking goddamn time, I'm a faggot, I never needed to see other faggots on TV to feel "represented".

This is what I'm talking about, "deserve", this fucking goddamn cultural bullshit of "I deserve this" and "I deserve that". You're not owed shit, you're an exception get over it and neck yourself already.

I think they should've aired it, and let the parents decide if they want to let their kids watch it or not. APT is on the same level as the censoring left-wing companies like Twitter for me for essentially wanting to make their catalog of shows pander to control freak, anti-gay parents.

I 100% agree with you about the representation argument, though. Brown completely fucked up.

Makes sense, brainwashing kids into thinking that deviant lifestyles are normal at the point in their development when they're highly suggestible is fucked up.

Not airing it gives it significantly more attention (vis online journalists) then it would've had if they just aired it and let the parents decide.

Theres a reason why people are ditching cable for Netflix, broadcasters. This is one of them.

They should stop airing Arthur because it's a fucking zombie show, not because it has fags in it (though that helps). If your kid is still watching TV and not DVDs or streams of actual good cartoons from the 80s and 90s you might as well just get in the car and turn it on without opening the garage door.

So at worst a couple more kids experiment with gayness before realizing, nope, they were straight all along (because sexuality isn’t a choice). Big fucking deal.

Also who gives a shit if something’s “deviant” or “normal”? That doesn’t make it good or bad.

It's not like this is a new thing.

Anybody remember the replacement teacher from Hey Arnold?

latest

They did everything short of a gay wedding with this guy: He's obsessed with theater and poetry; he shares his initials and his family name with the only '80s celebrity less believably heterosexual than Michael Jackson; Helga, who was the best character on the show and got the most screentime of anyone but Arnold, routinely derides him for being a fag using every insult that could conceivably get greenlit for Nickelodeon at the time, including calling him a throw pillow in his very first episode; the woman he replaced left teaching to become a professional golfer; his voice actor's openly gay; and Arnold and Helga once crashed his Thanksgiving, only to find Mama Simmons giving her son shit for bringing his boyfriend over.

The Thanksgiving clip's from '98.

God, I love Hey Arnold.
Best of all, it was there and totally normal and grounded in reality. Not on a pedastal, idealized, or even *that* obvious (at least to kids).

True equality, where everyone can just be themselves and not have them thought better or worse for it. If everyone else could learn this is how you write diverse characters.
And I literally don't know a single person from my age group who didn't watch this show and not love it, and look at how colorful it was in regards to male and female ratios, race, sexuality, age, home lives, etc.

Now, I'm sad about the current climate of writing.... for kids or otherwise. :(

"Hey Arnold!" was the best way to do it.

Me too.

Well unfortunately, an article said that PBS was accused for making Mr. Ratburn gay.

Pat Robertson never lets his guard down, does he?

I think I miss the years when cartoon put the gay characters but they go by it with the show don't tell approach. I find it loses its magic when one of the character goes from subtle to explicitly showing it. So far the only cartoon that's remaining in its subtle representation is Spongebob Squarepants. We all know he is gay.
