Well it seems to be handled maturely and could be good for kids with gay fathers/mothers.

On the other hand it will never cease to creep me out how obsessed grown ass men and women get over "representation" in shows meant for toddlers.

I don't care that Ratburn's gay. I care that more than half of those in attendance at his wedding are the kids in his class and their families. It's a little off.

The things people golf clap over these days are astounding.

All you need is a gay rat to get your feels on?

Well shit, I'll make a cartoon with a non binary Teddy Bear that face fucks a Frog. That'll get greenlit, right?

Give me my medal now!

Hoo boy, the dudes at The Slums of Elwood are gonna have a field day with this one...

But seriously, from the looks of it, it doesn't seem too bad when compared to other attempts at depicting queers in children's cartoons (Steven Universe, the She-Ra reboot, the Korra finale) since Mr. Ratburn was always portrayed as kind of mildly flamboyant and eccentric but otherwise was a normal and functional person.

As far as I know, nothing ever indicated Ratburn was gay but there was also nothing to indicate the contrary either, and the character in question is a grown adult and not one of the main kid characters.

If an episode revealed Binky was gay or that Francine was secretly transgender, I'd be worried but honestly, the teacher coming out as gay and getting married in an age where same-sex marriage is legal in all fifty states is fairly innocuous if you ask me.

So far, it doesn't seem all hamfisted and shallow like more typical SJW fare (again, Steven Universe or the new She-Ra) and is more along the lines of showing that gay people are people too, often normal people like your friends and neighbors. Honestly, if this episode was aired in 2010 instead of 2019, it would be lauded instead of viewed with suspicion due to SJW hacks poisoning the well regarding LGBT characters in children's media.

Like I said, if they were pushing something more along the lines of a troon character or making one of the kids gay, I'd be kind of worried. But so far, I don't see any issues with the episode in and of itself.

Yeah, gotta say, much as I hate the idea of faggots breathing MY goddamn air, this doesn't seem so bad. Who the fuck even watches Arthur anymore. If anything this is just a dumb stunt to regain relevancy after decades of nobody giving a shit about Arthur. Like, I can think of worse characters to "ruin" than the fucking teacher from Arthur.

If anything this seems like a step back from the usual agenda shit. Surprised it wasn't Binky.

Also there's a 2 in the LGBBQ thing now? What the fuck does that even stand for?

I'm just still amazed that Mr. Ratburn's still Arthur's teacher after all this time. It's been many years since I last even saw an episode of Arthur, but I thought he moved up a grade at the very least.

Just keep the MAPs in check and I think this will blow over. Though this does make the episode where Mr. Ratburn was living under Arthur's roof for a while (and therefore teaching kids that teachers have lives and interests in old-ass cartoons, too) a little weird in hindsight.

This isn’t for children, it’s for tumblr manchildren who still watch cartoons and have not grown up.

Why do kids need to see this when gays, trannies especially, make up such an insignificant percentage of the population? Why teach kids about sexual content at 4?
So it teaches kids who have classmates with gay parents that there's nothing wrong with it, why is this a bad thing? At best it makes kids more tolerant, at worst kids never need to worry about it.
That's fine, but I have a problem with retconning existing characters as gay. This screencap summarizes it better than I could:

If the character's sexuality is never mentioned it's not a retcon to establish them as gay

All the beheadings in the middle east will now cease, with all african, asian, and eastern europeans fully opening themselves up to homosexuality in a way unseen in human history. This incredibly powerful American animated cartoon show will truly teach our children to be tolerant.

These people act like this matters at all. Arthur has always been a chill cartoon for little children to watch. As long as they don't teach kids to cut their dicks off or glue on fake cocks I don't care. The way the blue checkmarks are acting is grating, nothing new, but it's always baffled me how they think this effects society as a whole, or is some big step forward.

If cartoons could stop human instincts and prejudice, The Land Before Time would have ended racism.
